The Pirelli calendar for this year was released late last year and we were in love with the diversity and beautiful sartorial representation that the Alice in Wonderland inspired shoot was giving us. Now, Pirelli has turned its lenses towards a more theatrical inspiration.
For its 2019 edition, fashion’s sexiest calendar is featuring top talents like Gigi Hadid, Alexander Wang, Misty Copeland, Sienna Miller, Iman, Christy Turlington Burns, Julia Styles, Sophia Loren, Julia Garner, Calvin Royal III, Laetitia Casta and Sergei Polunin in far from sultry poses. These stars have been captured everywhere from bars to ponds to exotic beaches portraying strong characters with great story-lines that are quite distant from the magazine’s typical sexiness.
Referring to this year’s theme, the magazine’s photographer, Albert Watson said:
“The women are different from the topless babes on the beach. I’m trying to do something that has layers to it… It’s an interpretation, a visual exploration of the changing nature of ambition and success as told through four female protagonists who are playing roles and three supporting male protagonists,”
