Alessandro Michele, the former creative director of Gucci, has been appointed as the creative director of the couture house Valentino. Michele stepped down from Gucci in November 2022. The announcement ends much industry speculation about where he would go next. The designer said of his new role at the Rome-based brand: “It’s an incredible honor. I feel the immense joy and the huge responsibility to join a maison de couture that has the word ‘beauty’ carved on a collective story made of distinctive elegance, refinement, and extreme grace.”

Michele will succeed Pierpaolo Piccioli, the much-loved industry figure, who stepped down from Valentino last week after more than two decades at the brand. He will start his new job at Valentino’s HQ, near the Spanish Steps, next week. His debut collection for the house will reportedly be at Paris Fashion Week in September.

2. CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’ is certified 8x platinum in the US

In a groundbreaking moment for African music, CKay’s hit track “Love Nwantiti” has soared to unprecedented heights. The song secured an 8x Platinum certification in the United States. This remarkable achievement marks a historic milestone. It became the first African song to reach such a prestigious accolade, selling a staggering 8 million units. “Love Nwantiti” has captured the hearts of millions with its infectious melody, compelling lyrics, and CKay’s signature blend of Afrobeats and contemporary R&B.

3. LeBron James reacts to Bella Shmurda’s ‘Philo’

LeBron James, the legendary basketball player, has been caught on camera dancing to the popular Nigerian artist Bella Shmurda’s song “Philo,” which features Omah Lay. The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows James casually grooving to the Afrobeats song during an NBA game for the LA Lakers.

Bella Shmurda’s collaboration with Omah Lay in “Philo” has been a fan favorite since its release, and from all indications, it is slowly gaining momentum in becoming a global hit. What better way to kick off its success than having the popular NBA star and legend of the game dancing along as he prepares for a game?

4. Burna Boy calls American blogs ‘parasites’

Nigerian singer Burna Boy has debunked recent reports and clarified that he did not shave his beard again. Outraged, the singer took to his Instastory to clear the air regarding the viral pictures that had circulated on social media, stressing that they were old pictures from 2021. His post read, “To all you weirdos who depend on @theshaderoom the @shaderoomborough and any other weirdo blogs for your daily news. I shaved my beard in 2021 not now.”

The singer slammed the reports, stressing that his many feats were overlooked. “But it’s good to know that for all the history I’ve been making and records I’ve been setting and breaking you, PARASITES ONLY CARE ABOUT WHY I MIGHT HAVE FUCKED, who I’m fucking and stupid shit like ‘Burna boy shaved his beard’. I gotta apologise to Nigerian blogs now cuz I thought their stupidity was unique, I didn’t know that they learned all they know from the West,” he said.

5. Mauricio Pochettino reveals fresh Ben Chilwell injury

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino reveals Ben Chilwell is recovering from a fresh knock suffered during the international break. Pochettino revealed that Chilwell will be a doubt for the Blues’ clash against Burnley on Saturday. The left-back has had numerous issues throughout the campaign and it now looks likely that his season has taken another hit, at least in the short term. Chilwell was a part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad and played a total of 157 minutes of football against Brazil and Belgium.

Speaking to the media, Pochettino said on Thursday: “We still need to assess a few players like Chilwell after playing two games. I think he got a knock in his knee. Today, he wasn’t ready to train. We will see what will happen tomorrow if he can be in the squad.”
