It’s not every day that we get to see a lot of Nigerian celebrities in functional pieces which is why we appreciate the style offers that were delivered this past weekend.
For many of the Nigerian celebrities and socialites on this list, their ensemble was created with an understanding of chic elegance and the reality of the inferno-like heat that has enveloped most of the country. In other words, while they could have opted for a glamorous, out of this world outfit, they settled for more light-weight casual and comfortable combinations without compromising style.
Of course, there’s the case of Toke Makinwa who also stepped out in comfy clothes in London, albeit dressed to fight a different element: the cold. In all, whether they were in casual, formal or dressy wear, celebs opted for comfort over everything else.
Going from casual to dressy, here’s how Nigerian celebrities did it…
Leaving heels for another day, film-maker Lilian Afegbai stepped out in a vibrant two-piece set and flat sandals. The set in itself is so colourful and merry, it has us feeling all girly just looking at it.
We’re so used to seeing OAP Toke Makinwa dressed to the nines that a chic casual look like this gets us all giddy. Also refreshing is her extra long box braids. Hair goals anyone?
Ex- BBNaija housemate Cynthia ‘CeeC’ Nwadiora took the cake in her sheer marvel. The curvy queen looked fantastic as she paired a lingerie-inspired top over a sparkly sheer skirt.
The past two weeks or more have been super hot so it’s not surprising that TV host Vandora stepped out in a simple retro shirt dress that worked to let in air through the lacey design. She kept her look chic with strappy heeled sandals that brought the oomph to the look.
For thanksgiving service on Sunday, actress and TV host Nancy Isime added a tweak to the traditional iro and buba. The box pleated hemlines took the outfit from 70 to 100 and her choice of accessories brought the rave to the look.
Army camo green pants + lace top? OAP Mimi Onalaja took a risk with this look and we say it worked. We especially love that the lace top was sheer and she was able to balance her accessories in accordance with the embroidered details on the top.
Tracy Nwapa always looks like she’s ready for a business meeting and we can’t complain. If anything she has offered a very lightweight idea on how to dress to work this week.
We look at this outfit fondly: a cute orange dress that ignores all the excessive and over the top ‘sexy’ cuts. We could say Sharon Ooja pulled off a very grown-up version of sexy.
It’s not every day we see a total animal print look, and certainly not all the time we see it paired so tastefully and simply. OAP Kaylah Oniwo styled the heck out of this monochrome leopard print combo and we are satisfied. Just satisfied.
For the ‘Rok Me Tour’ with fans of Rok Studios in London, top actress Mercy Aigbe opted for a midi printed dress. She rocked the dress with a red pair of Saint Laurent Opyum YSL logo-heel sandals with black hardware. The overall look is easily the best thing we spotted this weekend. We love RAVE!
