1. Tems says her debut album is “1,000% coming out this year”

Ahead of the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards, which will be held on Wednesday, March 6, Billboard sat down with Nigerian music sensation Tems and discussed her career trajectory since breaking into the international scene with Wizkid’s 2020 hit, “Essence.” During the conversation for the publication’s cover story, Tems mentioned that her debut album “is 1,000% coming out this year,” although adding that she’s “not thinking too much about outcomes.”

Ever since “Essence,” which reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 a year later (with the help of a Justin Bieber remix), the Grammy winner has been on a steady rise. She has released hit songs and featured on notable projects, including collaborations with Drake, Future, Beyoncé, and Rihanna. That success has also come with Golden Globes, Grammy, and Academy Awards nominations, as well as a Grammy win for her work on Future’s Hot 100 No. 1, “Wait for You.”

2. Meghan Markle’s podcast gets a second chance with relaunch

Meghan Markle’s Archetypes podcast has received a second chance with a relaunch after the dramatic Spotify cancellation. The relaunch of Archetypes comes after the Duchess of Sussex signed a deal with media company and podcast network, Lemonada last month. The mother-of-two revealed she is “thrilled” to announce the series has now been released on all platforms.

As part of the relaunch, the cover art of Archetypes has been updated to a pink hue, as opposed to the original Spotify green. Although Markle’s black and white portrait remains, the Lemonada Media watermark has also been added. The podcast is now streaming on all audio platforms including Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and Spotify. “Being able to support a female-founded company with a roster of thought provoking and highly entertaining podcasts is a fantastic way to kick off 2024,” the Duchess said in a statement via Sussex.com in February. “Our plan to re-release Archetypes so that more people can now have access to it, as well as launching a dynamic new podcast are well in the works.”

Currently at 12 episodes which aired in 2022, Archetypes featured one-on-one discussions with prominent figures such as Mariah Carey, Serena Williams, Deepika Padukone, and Paris Hilton on “the labels that try to hold women back” and “how women can reject, reclaim, and redefine these archetypes, on their own terms.”

3. France enshrines abortion rights in its constitution

France has become the world’s first country to enshrine abortion rights into its constitution. Lawmakers from France’s upper and lower houses of parliament met Monday and passed the historic amendment. The bill was approved in an overwhelming 780-72 vote, and nearly the entire joint session stood in a standing ovation.

President Emmanuel Macron announced after the vote that the amendment would be inscribed in the constitution on Friday, March 8 — International Women’s Day — during a ceremony in central Paris that will be open to the public. Writing on social media, he said the vote was a matter of “French pride” and a “universal message.” In addition, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal told MPs and senators who had gathered in Congress: “We’re sending a message to all women. Your body belongs to you and no one can decide for you.”

4. Adekunle Gold breaks down in tears after selling out Wembley Arena, London

Adekunle Gold has added another accomplishment to his career successes — selling out the prestigious Wembley Arena in London. Following the feat, the Afrobeats star was overwhelmed with emotion and broke down in tears. In a now-viral video, Adekunle Gold can be seen crying as his wife and daughter offer support and consolation. A voice in the background echoes gratitude, acknowledging the journey from humble beginnings to selling out the 12,500-capacity Arena.

The said show took place on Sunday, March 3, with “AG Baby” performing renditions of several of his hit songs, including “Something Different,” “It Is What It Is,” and “Pami.” At a point, he was joined on stage by his wife, Simi, and the couple performed their hit love song, “Look What You Made Me Do.” However, it was backstage where Adekunle Gold’s emotions overflowed, as he was overcome with tears of joy upon learning of the sold-out tickets.

5. Brighton demand £12m for Roberto de Zerbi

Brighton & Hove Albion would demand a compensation figure of at least £12m to release in-demand head coach Roberto De Zerbi from his contract, a new report claims. De Zerbi announced himself as one of Europe’s best up-and-coming coaches following successful spells at Sassuolo and Shakhtar Donetsk, while his stock has only increased at Brighton.

The Italian led the Seagulls to a club-record sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season, securing Brighton’s first-ever European qualification. They have been drawn against AS Roma in the last 16 of the Europa League after topping a group featuring Ajax, Marseille, and AEK Athens.

Brighton’s rise and their evolving possession-based style have seen interest grow in De Zerbi’s services. It is reported that he is high on Liverpool’s seven-man shortlist of contenders to succeed Jurgen Klopp, while he has also been heavily linked with Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich in recent weeks.
