1. Burna Boy becomes first Nigerian to sell out arenas in Paris, Lyon and Marseille
Nigerian music is no longer something that used to remain within the boundaries of the country. Now, many people from different parts of the world enjoy Nigerian music and it is highly celebrated everywhere.
One of the top singers in the country, Burna Boy, is no doubt helping to push and represent the country’s music well in many parts of the world. Just recently, a fan of the artiste took to social media via his Twitter page to claim that Burna Boy is the first Nigerian artiste to sell out arenas in Lyon and Paris.
The Twitter user, Gabriel, said that Burna sold out 1600-capacity arenas in Paris and Lyon on two different occasions. Well, Burna Boy, obviously not being one to let his achievement be reduced, reacted to the fan’s claim.
According to Burna Boy, the arena in Paris was a 3000-capacity one and he sold it out twice. He also said the arena in Lyon was a 2500-capacity arena and that it was also sold out twice. Burna Boy also said that his show at Marseille on March 1, which was a 3500-capacity arena, also sold out.
2. Court suspends Oshiomhole as APC chairman
The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Jabi, Abuja, on Wednesday, ordered an interim suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.
Delivering a ruling on an application for an interlocutory injunction, Justice Danlami Senchi, ordered Oshiomhole to remain on suspension pending the determination of the main suit. The court held that the party wrongfully continued to retain him as its National Chairman while he is under suspension as a member of the party.
The judge, therefore, ordered Oshiomhole to stop parading himself as the National Chairman of the party and directed the party to cease acknowledging him in that regard.
3. Kenya accuses Somali military of cross-border attack
Kenya has accused Somalia’s military of carrying out an attack across its border. A statement from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s office says Somali soldiers destroyed buildings in the town of Mandera on Monday.
Several people were killed that day just inside Somalia, in Bula Hawa, during fighting between the Somali military and forces from Somalia’s regional Jubaland government. Somalia’s central government opposed last year’s re-election of Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed, known as “Madobe”, who is a close ally of Kenya.
Correspondents say tension is escalating between the two countries, which are involved in a maritime border dispute. But they are on the same side in the fight against al-Shabab Islamist militants.
4. Super Tuesday: Biden wins 9 states, Sanders takes California
A resurgent Joe Biden has scored sweeping victories across the United States with the backing of a diverse coalition and progressive rival Bernie Sanders seized Super Tuesday’s biggest prize with a win in California as the Democratic Party’s once-crowded presidential field became a two-man contest.
The two Democrats, lifelong politicians with starkly different visions for the US’s future, were battling for delegates as 14 states and one US territory held a series of high-stakes elections that marked the most significant day of voting in the party’s 2020 presidential nomination fight. The winner of the primary season will take on President Donald Trump in the November general election.
5. Harry Kane fit for Euro 2020 after a hamstring injury
Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane insists he will be fit for Euro 2020 and hopes to return next month. The 26-year-old has not played since rupturing a tendon in his left hamstring at Southampton on 1 January.
The severity of the injury necessitated surgery, leading to concerns about the England captain’s involvement in Euro 2020, which begins on 12 June. But Kane said: “Unless something pretty drastic happens between now and then, I’ll be there.“
Kane, Tottenham’s leading scorer for the past five seasons, has resumed light training at Spurs ahead of schedule but will miss England’s home friendlies against Italy and Denmark this month.
