Claudio Ranieri has come out of retirement to take over as Roma’s head coach until the end of the season, just six months after announcing his decision to step away from football management. The 73-year-old Italian will also serve as an advisor to the club’s owners, assisting in the search for a permanent manager. Ranieri, who has previously managed Roma twice, including a brief stint in 2019, will transition into a senior executive role at the end of the season, as confirmed by the club.
His appointment follows the sacking of Ivan Juric, who lasted only 12 matches after taking over in the summer. Juric had replaced Daniele de Rossi, who was dismissed after just four months at the helm. Roma’s underperformance in both Serie A and the Europa League has added pressure, with the team currently sitting 12th in the league and last in their European group. Despite significant investment in the summer transfer window, the club has struggled, and Ranieri’s experience will be pivotal in steering Roma back on track, starting with their upcoming match against Napoli on November 24.
