Mayorkun Geng Remix EPs, Sarkodie’s Sub Zero + Other Afrobeat Songs We’re Currently Feeling
A fashion and culture enthusiast who's really a food loving…
With the lockdown still very much in place in most places around the world due to the growing coronavirus pandemic, music is about the only thing that keeps most of us feeling safe. Thanks to Mayorkun for giving us three versions of the Geng remix to keep us lyrically well occupied.
Mayorkun collaborated with fellow Nigerian artists, other African artists and some UK artists on the three Geng remix EPs. Literally, on the lockdown, Teni teamed up with DJ Neptune to give us a tune titled Lockdown – a much-needed anthem for this unforeseeable season we find ourselves in.
Over in Ghana, Sarkodie proves once again that he is not to be messed with as he released a diss track aimed at his haters and this one is titled Sub Zero. But I seriously doubt any haters are at work right now as we all have a common enemy; COVID-19.
Abandon all your worries this weekend and elevate your mood with these thoughtfully curated Afrobeat songs by top African artistes.
As always, remember to wash your hands frequently, boost your immune system and most importantly, stay safe! Stay home!
Here are 7 of the hottest trending African songs you should listen to this weekend…
1. Mayorkun ft M.I Abaga x Vector x Sinzu x Ycee – Geng (Naija Remix)
Having M.I Abaga and Vector in the same Geng was a mean feat and Mayorkun delivered them to us. The Naija Gang remix also featured Sinzu and Ycee and they all collaborated to give us a good one! M.I’s lyrics took a shot at the way social media is being used in recent times and it sure was timely.
2. Teni ft DJ Neptune – Lockdown
Off the Quarantine Playlist EP, Teni gets into her feelings about the lockdown with DJ Neptune. In Lockdown, Teni regrets the things she didn’t do with her lover.
3. Mayorkun ft Kwesi Arthur x Riky Rick x Rayvanny x Innoss’B – Geng (Africa Remix)
Kwesi Arthur, Riky Rick, Rayvanny and Innoss’B were the perfect guys to be part of the African Geng with Mayorkun. Which gang would you rather be a part of?
4. Sarkodie – Sub Zero
One thing is for sure, Sarkodie is a king when it comes to rap as well as when it comes to replying diss and he proved that with Sub Zero. The track is full of Subliminals that has been allegedly aimed at some of his fellow rappers.
5. Mayorkun ft Ms Banks x Russ – Geng (UK remix)
Mayorkun is not slowing down as he was on a roll and this time, he included some of UK’s finest musicians. Ms Banks and Russ were part of the UK Geng and they delivered their lines smoothly.
6. E.L – Efa Wo Ho Ben
Ghanaian award-winning rapper and singer E.L has released the video for his first single of 2020 titled Efa Wo Ho Ben “meaning mind your business” and the creativity in the video coupled with the choir as vocalists is beautiful.
7. Ladipoe ft. Simi – Know You
Ladipoe and Simi was not a combination we expected anytime soon but they have blessed our ears with their vocals and we can’t help but fall in love with Know You. The track talks about two people who think they are in love but they don’t really know each other that well.
