Renowned South African dancer and TV presenter Otlile “Oti” Mabuse says she’s still awe-struck following her exclusive visit to Buckingham Palace in London this week. Taking to her Instagram on Wednesday, Mabuse detailed her first encounter with King Charles III at the 2023 Prince’s Trust Award ceremony, on May 16. Mabuse was among the special guests, who included the 2023 Prince’s Trust Award winners and celebrity ambassadors. The Prince’s Trust Awards recognize young people who have succeeded against the odds, improved their chances in life, and had a positive impact on their local community.

“And then today I met His Majesty the King, “ Mabuse wrote. She continued: “I’m still in a bit of shock as to what happened in the last two days. How you can go from presenting an award at the @princestrust to being invited to meet the king and not just meet but talk, laugh, ask him all the questions, listen to all his stories and plans that he always had! We spoke about dancing, my breakfast show and the coronation, his childhood and the concert.” Mabuse said she felt honored to have had the opportunity of meeting and mingling with other young people making big strides in their respective careers.

4. Rick Ross announces run for mayor of Fayetteville, Georgia

Over the past decade and a half, Rick Ross has built a sprawling estate in Fayetteville, Georgia complete with farm animals and an annual car show. Now, the Maybach Music boss is looking to become the leader of his town. Rozay took to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, May 16, to share his plans. “I love Fayetteville so much. Next year, I’m running for mayor,” the “Hustlin’” rapper said. “That’s right. The boss Rick Ross is running for mayor of Fayetteville. I want to know how many votes did it actually take to vote in the mayor of Fayetteville. I need to know that ’cause we gon’ become that. We gon’ make that happen, and we gonna have a good time. We gon’ give some people opportunities, we gon’ give some people raises and, of course, we gon’ have to clean some people out.”

The rapper’s candidacy comes after the local government denied his permit application to host his annual car show at his Promise Land estate on June 3. According to reports, the MC’s neighbors approached the Fayette County Board of Commissioners in April and complained about the traffic that last year’s car show brought to the area. Some even signed petitions to have the event canceled.

5. ESPN announces new “In the Arena: Serena Williams” docuseries

Serena Williams is winning both on and off the court. The tennis champion is set to be the focus of a new docuseries highlighting her groundbreaking career and awe-inspiring life. The announcement was made on Tuesday, May 16. “In the Arena: Serena Williams” will be the name of the ESPN series backed by the Walt Disney Company, reports noted. The upcoming project comes after the success of the similarly styled 10-part ESPN series, “Man in the Arena: Tom Brady.” A synopsis of the forthcoming show promises that her “expansion of the franchise will be a multi-part series that provides the most complete, intimate and compelling account of her legendary career, featuring first-hand perspective from Serena and key figures throughout her life.”

“Serena fights to maintain her place atop the tennis world while juggling the transformational experience of starting a family,” a description continues of the expectant mother, who previously gave birth to daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. in 2017 with husband Alexis Ohanian. “That target, that big, giant red ‘X’ that I couldn’t see but everyone else saw, started out as a curse. Everyone wanted to beat me. It became, ‘We don’t care who wins. We just don’t want her to win,’” the 41-year-old narrates in a preview shared on social media — ultimately revealing that the burden became a blessing.
