How To Get Tiwa Savage’s Stunning Straw Curls Hairstyle

Singer and songwriter Tiwa Savage is such a babe and she proved this yet again as she attended this year’s “Sound City MVP Awards” Saturday night. The beautiful mother of one left us absolutely wowed with her 2020 makeover look. The look featured a stunning straw curl hairstyle which she paired with a nude-inspired soft glam makeup. Tiwa’s hairstyle set the gram on fire and it’s easy to see why. The look came as a breathe of fresh ‘hair’ and a way for “Africa’s number 1 bad girl” to re-introduce herself this new year.

Straw curls, or its sister, perm rod set, is a timeless way of using really skinny hair rollers with or without heat to curl your hair. In its classic form, drinking straws are used to tight roll any hair texture. The best part is that it can be used for different hair lengths.

To get Tiwa’s particular straw curl style, you’d first need to get a similar haircut: a soft cut mohawk, leaving enough hair on the top to achieve the curl mini-drop down effect on top of the forehead.

The straw curl hairstyle is easy to achieve but can be a tad difficult to manage as the curls disappear sooner than you’d want if not properly protected. According to our EIC, who recently wore the hairstyle, her straw curls usually start to fad out within one week.

Straw curled hair can get quite dry after the first few days so it is important to use a moisturizing hair cream to keep your hair hydrated to prevent it from breaking due to dryness.

Ready to try this hairstyle? We’ve included a perm rod set video tutorial below to show you how to do straw curls / perm rod curls.
