On Sunday, September 1, GloRilla received the key to the city of Memphis during the 901 Day celebration, a day dedicated to honoring the city’s 901 area code. The emotional ceremony took place in her hometown, with Memphis Mayor Paul Young and rapper Kia Shine among those present. GloRilla, who has quickly risen to prominence in the hip-hop scene, expressed her gratitude on social media, stating, “Memphis made me, Frayser raised me. I got the key to my cityyyyy ahhhhh. Happy 901 Day, MEMPHIS!!!!!!”
This recognition comes shortly after the rapper made headlines for updating the lyrics to one of her new songs following backlash over the use of the “R-word.” Responding to criticism, the rapper changed the controversial term to “go naughty” and received praise for her swift and thoughtful response. The honor of receiving the key to Memphis solidifies GloRilla’s influence and connection to her community as she continues to make waves in the music industry.

South African musician Ndivhudzannyi “Makhadzi” Ralivhona has unveiled the cover for her forthcoming album “Miracle Child,” set for release on October 7. The cover art, inspired by Rihanna’s “Unapologetic” album, features Makhadzi unclothed with words like “miscarriage,” “polygamy,” “SARS,” and “BET” painted across her body. Each word symbolizes the significant experiences that have shaped her life and career, reflecting both the challenges and celebrations she has encountered.
Makhadzi explained the personal meaning behind the artwork, stating that the words represent the pain and triumphs that have defined her journey. “I opened my wardrobe and found nothing to wear to cover my pain and celebrations. I decided not to cover them; instead, I chose to wear all my pain and celebrations,” she shared. With “Miracle Child,” Makhadzi not only showcases her musical growth but also offers a powerful and raw portrayal of her resilience and faith.

Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei, a renowned distance runner who recently competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, has been left in critical condition after a horrific attack by her boyfriend in Trans Nzoia County, Kenya. On September 1, Cheptegei was reportedly set on fire by her boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema, during a violent altercation in their home. According to local authorities, Ndiema allegedly doused Cheptegei with gasoline and ignited the flames, leaving her with severe burns covering 75 percent of her body. Both Cheptegei and Ndiema were rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret for treatment.
The tragic incident, reportedly triggered by a dispute over property, has shocked the international athletic community and sparked outrage over the continuing issue of domestic violence. Cheptegei had purchased land in Trans Nzoia County to be near several athletic training centers, and it is believed that the couple’s argument was over the ownership of this property. As Cheptegei fights for her life in the hospital, Ndiema remains in police custody, with authorities seeking justice for this brutal attack.
5. Victor Osimhen’s future at Napoli takes a major turnaround

Victor Osimhen’s future at Napoli has taken a dramatic turn as he nears a loan move to Galatasaray. After a chaotic period marked by failed transfer attempts to Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli and Premier League club Chelsea, Osimhen was confirmed by Napoli to be outside their plans for the season. However, a lifeline has emerged with Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting that Napoli and Galatasaray have agreed on a loan deal. Galatasaray will cover nearly €10 million of Osimhen’s wages, though they are not obligated to make the transfer permanent.
Galatasaray’s decision to pursue Osimhen is partly due to the injury of Mauro Icardi, who is expected to be sidelined for an extended period. The Turkish club’s delegates have arrived in Italy to finalize the deal and negotiate personal terms with Osimhen before the Turkish transfer window closes on September 13. The move could provide Osimhen with a fresh start and a chance to make an impact at Galatasaray while also offering the club a solution to their striking needs.
