In celebration of New York Jewelry Week, eBay opened the doors to the Luxury Exchange pop-up store that landed in the heart of Diamond District. Addressing the surging price trend in the designer goods market, eBay offers luxury enthusiasts an opportunity to exchange their lesser-loved pieces for other authentic luxury items that might better suit their collection.
The pop-up will only be open for two days (November 16 and 17), during which time customers will have the chance to have Ebay’s Authenticity Guarantee team appraise their high-end products and obtain an estimate of their value (also known as “closet currency”). After that, people who are interested in swapping can browse the store’s selection of designer jewelry, watches, and handbags. A high-end item can also be listed on eBay right there at the pop-up with the help of a local photo studio and advisors.

“It’s never been easier for luxury enthusiasts to refine their collections in a trusted environment, and we wanted to create an IRL experience that reflects what’s happening on Ebay every day. The Luxury Exchange gives shoppers an opportunity to appraise and sell their valuable goods, and add something new to their personal collections – just in time for the holiday season.” said Tirath Kamdar, GM of luxury at Ebay.
The opening of the eBay Christmas pop-up was motivated by a recent investigation conducted in collaboration with eBay and BoF Insights, which revealed consumers’ interest in a more circular, sustainable approach to fashion. According to this study, 30% of luxury purchasers believe that fine jewelry, watches, and handbags are less volatile than other types of investments. 57% of luxury consumers think that if a piece of jewelry or accessory is kept in outstanding condition, its value will increase.
The Luxury Exchange initiative is a component of eBay’s 2020-launched Authenticity Guarantee program. The program captures the mindset of luxury investors who buy pre-owned products that have been physically validated.
The eBay Luxury Exchange welcomes items from the following brands…
#1. Jewelry: Bvlgari, Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and David Yurman (price range: $500–$10,000).
#2. Handbags: Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, Fendi, Loewe, Prada, Gucci, YSL, Goyard, Bottega Veneta, Chloe, Celine, and Balenciaga (price range: $500-$10,000).
#3. Watches: Rolex, Breitling, Cartier, Omega, Patek Philippe, Tag Heuer, A.Lange & Sohne, Audemars Piguet, and Blancpain (price range: $2,000-$10,000). Ebay Luxury Exchange Store
The pop-up will be open to the public for two days only: November 16th and 17th (from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.). No RSVP is required to attend a NYC-based pop-up located at 22 West 47th Street, New York, NY.
