he admirable twist to fashion is a wild ability to flunk the rules and tweak them in a way that serves you. Last week, Black celebrities and style influencers played truancy in fashion school yet came out with flying colors, literally. The stars chose to own it unapologetically attending film festivals, wedding anniversaries and other occasions. They proved that style never truly dies, it can only evolve from one state to the other.
The looks
If you don’t receive flowers, hit your stylist up and wear a bunch of them as a dress. Don’t believe us? Ask talented Hollywood actress, Gabriella Union. The mother of one wore a custom Maison Valentino tube dress with a bunch of delicate baby pink ruffles which appeared floral and regal for her 7th-year wedding anniversary dinner in France.
Leading the style pack for Nigerian musician Tiwa Savage’s dad’s funeral services was the star herself. She shone brighter than a diamond in a cobalt blue dress with bejeweled and fringe detailing. Asides from an obviously snatched waist, she snatched all our attention last weekend as she served up back-to-back looks of which this ensemble from Xtrabridelagos seemed to be our fave.
The perfect girly girl’s gift is sealed with a bow nicely wrapped around it and so the perfect dress stands out with bow details. Style star Chic Ama was the ideal barbie in a shimmery silver mono-sleeve mini dress by Kenia Nunez designs with an exaggerated bow cinched on the waistline and falling knowingly in a bid to accentuate the hips. Assignment duly executed.
The styles shared by Black celebs and top fashion influencers last week were nothing short of chic, edgy, and glamorous and it’s safe to say that we are, as usual, living vicariously through them. Black style queens.
