Other Nigerian artists like Burna Boy, Rema, and Wizkid have also been able to achieve the same feat. His London and Paris concerts are set to be held on January 28th and 31st.

2. Kanye West sued for assault and battery by an autograph seeker

American rapper, producer, and entrepreneur Kanye West has been sued for alleged assault and battery by a fan who approached him for an autograph. According to reports, the autograph seeker said the assault occurred in 2022 at DTLA. The man claimed to have demanded an apology from the singer, to which he replied, “Apology for what?” before allegedly striking him again multiple times and severely injuring him. He alleged that one of the people who accompanied West tried to stop the attack, but he barked back, “Go to the fucking house and get my fucking kids.”

“Kanye screamed, ‘I’m going to make a fucking example of you’, before hitting me with a punch to the face.” The man is suing for damages, claiming he has suffered emotional distress following the assault. His wife is also suing Kanye West for a loss of consortium, saying she lost her husband’s companionship as a result of the incident.

Akani Simbine is officially off the market. Congratulatory messages flooded the South African sprinter’s Instagram timeline on Thursday after he revealed he was traditionally married. Akani shared a picture of himself wearing traditional attire alongside his partner, who had a diamond ring on her ring finger. “Forever yena,” he captioned the post. Akani’s love journey has made headlines on various occasions before now.

In early 2017, Akani and news anchor Abigail Visagie were one of South Africa’s favorite celebrity couples—this was until they quietly broke up in 2018. Akani then moved on to a new relationship with Cape Town netball player Jo Prins in 2019 and later got engaged to her in 2021. The engagement did not last long, though. Social media users later noticed Jo no longer wearing her ring, concluding that their engagement was called off.

A post shared by Mo Abudu (@moabudu)

Nigerian filmmaker Mo Abudu made a stunning appearance at this year’s Governors Awards, hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars). Abudu shared images and videos from the event held in Los Angeles, California, on Instagram. The Governors Awards is an annual event that celebrates awardees conferred by the Academy’s Board of Governors for various outstanding performances. It precedes the Oscar Awards ceremony in March 2024, which will honor the best films for the year 2023.

Abudu expressed that such gatherings pave the way for Nollywood to enter the international space. In her words, “It’s in these rooms that connections are forged, ideas spark, and collaborations bloom, crucial for the growth of our creative economy on our continent.” Her psychological films titled “Iyawo Mi” and “Her Perfect Life,” which launched her directorial debut, were announced in November 2023 as eligible picks for the Oscars Live Action Short Film Category.

5. Ex-Liverpool striker Sadio Mane, 31, marries girlfriend, 18, in secret ceremony

Ex-Liverpool striker Sadio Mane has married his 18-year-old girlfriend, Aisha Tamba, in a private ceremony in his home country of Senegal. The wedding is believed to have taken place on January 7 in Keur Massar, an area in the capital city of Dakar, just six days before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations on January 13. The event was said to be attended by family, friends, and fellow footballers.

Reports claim Aisha ‘was long intended for the 31-year-old footballer since her teenage years’ though it is not known exactly how long they have been dating. The legal age of consent in Senegal is 16 years of age. It was also reported that the former Liverpool star had taken care of her bills when she was in school. The 31-year-old, who currently plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia after leaving Bayern Munich last summer, has given little away about his private life during his playing career.
