Last Week, Our Best Beauty Looks Came With Unique Crowns

While the sun shines on everybody, it reflects differently off the skin of black women. From their hair / crown to their toes, there’s no doubting that there’s this innate royalty that comes alive when melanated skin, no matter its shade, is photographed against bright light––be it the sun or studio lighting. Last week’s best beauty looks reminded us of this and had us in full curtsy mood. Instagram influencers.

Last week, updos and crowns ruled the hair scene from the U.S. to Nigeria. Former Miss America, Nia Imani Franklin, was all smiles as she shared a photo with a deep message, with her elegant crown on her head. Over in Nigeria, Lola Omotayo Okoye, wife to musician Peter Okoye (one half of P-Square) served a flawless face beat for her birthday. With the giant bun atop her head, she was indeed wearing her very own crown.

Still on crowns, we love how Bozoma Saint John pulled her kinky straight hair into a top bun updo, delivering a look that spelled ‘sass’! Little wonder she’s called the self-proclaimed Badassboz!

Last week also had a number black queens who brought their natural hair out to play in all its diverse textures and colors. Singer Janelle Monáe and top model Ebonee Davis championed this look with Janelle’s auburn colored curls popping at the top of her head in classic 4A-C (curl pattern) fashion while Ebonee’s curls framed her face in tiny 3C strings.

Hip hop superstars Monica and Brandy had one of the biggest Verzuz battles this year and broke the internet and had people tuned in for hours listening to the two queens of R&B battle it out. Well, one of them, Monica served a golden smokey eye look that instantly caught our attention. Let’s have a little chat about her eyes! Lashes, set! Eye shadow, popping! Makeup, on fleek!

South African TV host Minnie Dlamini reminded us just how beautiful pink lipstick is with her sultry too-cute-for-the-water makeup look, while a client makeup look by Abuja-based makeup artist, Ronaldthe7th, reminded us of just how stunning a well-done nude-inspired glam look can be. black beauty influencers
