1. Beyoncé receives Innovator Award at iHeart Radio Music Award

Beyoncé graced the iHeart Radio Awards with her designer country-dripped presence to accept the Innovator Award from Stevie Wonder, who she revealed played the harmonica on her rendition of “Jolene” off her latest album, “Cowboy Carter.” “Yeah yeah yeah!” Stevie Wonder chanted as Beyoncé accepted the honor. Beyoncé turned to the crooner, saying, “I love you and honor you. I want to thank you for making a way for all of us. I’m honored to receive this recognition from you, Steve Wonder. Whenever anyone asks me if it’s anyone I can listen to for the rest of my life, it’s always you.”

Beyoncé took time in her speech to honor the innovators who defied all labels placed on them, the innovators who stood tall before her, the innovators “who have dedicated their lives and their art to creating a shift.” Finally, she thanked her team, her husband—her best friend, her rock—and her three children, who inspire and bless her. The crowd just kept cheering, glad to witness a historic moment.

2. Rema and Burna Boy win big at the iHeartRadio Music Awards 2024

Rema and Burna Boy were two of the winners at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, which was held on Monday, April 1. Ludacris hosted the annual awards show, which was broadcast live from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on FOX. The winners of the night were announced throughout the show. Burna Boy and Rema were the only Afrobeats stars who won awards during the night. In addition, the African Giant saw off competition from Wizkid, Tyla, Tems, and Rema to win the Best African Music Act. Rema and Selena Gomez also won the award for Collaboration of the Year for the hit single “Calm Down.”

3. South Africa: Tyla’s debut album tops Billboard World Albums chart

South African singer-songwriter Tyla has made history with her debut album, “Tyla,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard World Albums chart. The album, released on March 22, marks a significant milestone for the young artist. She has been making waves in the music industry with her unique blend of genres. From Afrobeats, Pop, R&B, and South Africa’s very own, Amapiano.

The album features collaborations with artists such as Kelvin Momo, Tems, Gunna, Skillibeng, and Becky G. These collaborations highlight Tyla’s ability to work with a variety of artists and genres. Also, the 14-track project includes her previous singles “Truth or Dare,” “On and On,” and “Butterflies,” which have been well-received by fans and critics alike.

4. Davido releases an official statement about his rumored arrest

Award-winning singer and performer Davido has released an official statement about his rumored arrest, which circulated on social media. In what has been categorized as an April Fools prank, a Kenyan media outlet released a news publication that claimed that the singer had been arrested after his recent concert on charges of drug possession after his performance at the Raha Festival.

The story, which has since been removed, alleged that cocaine worth $135,000 was discovered on Davido’s private jet. Furthermore, it’s reported that the artist’s jet was at JKIA, where he was allegedly detained while an investigation was conducted. However, these false reports attracted concerns from fans and a direct response from Davido, who revealed that legal steps would be taken as what has been categorized as a defamatory news publication.

5. Lionel Messi back to training following injury struggles

Lionel Messi returned to Inter Miami training as the MLS side gears up to face Monterrey on Thursday. The Argentina star has been out with a hamstring injury for over two weeks after being subbed off during Inter Miami’s clash against Nashville last month. Since then, he has missed two Major League Soccer matches and also pulled out of the Argentina squad for their friendlies during the last international break.

However, the 36-year-old has seemingly recovered from the injury and was spotted back on the training pitch on Tuesday as the Herons prepare to take on Liga MX giants Monterrey in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup quarter-final fixture. Gerardo Martino’s side will be back in MLS action after their CONCACAF Champions Cup clash on April 7 as they take on the Colorado Rapids. Herons boss Tata Martino will no doubt provide an update on his star man’s fitness in his pre-match press conference.
