1. Spotify Announces Ayra Starr as next Radar Global Artist

Spotify has announced Ayra Starr as the latest Radar Global artist. The rising star, born and raised in Nigeria, is the newest addition to Spotify’s marquee global emerging artist program. Radar is Spotify’s program created to spotlight up-and-coming music talent, giving them an opportunity to broaden their fanbase and support them on their path to superstardom through comprehensive marketing, content, and editorial campaigns.

Through the program, Ayra Starr will be featured on the RADAR Global playlist as well as release special content on Spotify, including a mini-documentary and social content. The mini-doc, which takes place in Ayra’s hometown, Cotonou, Benin, gives fans special insight into the rising star as she chronicles her beginnings and more—showing fans a personal look at her journey.

2. John Boyega opens up about his personal dating rules

John Boyega has opened up about his personal dating rules. In a recent interview with GQ, The Woman King” star shared exactly what he looks for in a woman. It starts with melanin. “I only date Black,” Boyega, 30, proudly told the magazine. “Then it’s about chemistry, personality, goals. Is there a synergy? Can I help you? Can you help me?”

The British actor has often used his platform to speak against the injustices and prejudices the Black community faces on a daily basis. During a Black Lives Matter protest in 2020, the star passionately vocalized the importance of protecting Black women. Boyega describes himself as “very disciplined” when it comes to dating, especially as a celebrity. Thankfully, his Nigerian parents provided a blueprint for what he’s looking for in a loving relationship.

He explained, “Being in the public eye, they would prefer it if you had the wife and family. It’s the ultimate PR package. But my parents have been together for 35 years. There’s nothing that this world can do in terms of pressure to make me be inspired by anything else but my parents.”

PUMA and the Cotton Fest team are set to commemorate the late rapper Riky Rick in a big way. In a statement released, they announced the launch of the new PUMA X Cotton Fest FC collection, set to drop on Thursday, September 22. “We are very privileged to be able to bring what turned out to be Riky’s final collection to the market. As with everything Riky did, he was hands-on with this collection and its Cotton Fest FC aesthetic,” said Hayden Manuel, PUMA SA sport style marketing manager.

As part of the launch, PUMA committed to a R100,000 ($5,700) bursary for final-year AFDA students to cover shortfalls in their fees and help them graduate. Since the rapper died, his legacy and memory have been commemorated on numerous occasions. The musician and fashion maverick was honored by Laduma Ngxokolo’s Maxhosa in his show for the Autumn/Winter collection titled “Alkebulan,” on Youth Day at its studio in the Johannesburg CBD.

Nigerian music star Bankole Wellington has, for the first time, shared photos of his son on social media. The singer took to his Instagram page on Friday, September 16, to flaunt the adorable photos. “My baby had our baby and he’s everything we prayed for…Hazaiah Olusegun “Champ” Wellington. God is good. Thank you Jesus. The End. ??? ? #PapaZ #MamaZ #Zaiah #Zaza #Testimony#SunshineForTheWeekend,” he captioned the photos.

Hazaiah turned one in January and, his parents went on social media to celebrate him. “A year ago, God gave me the best gift ever. He placed the most precious jewel in my care. A year ago, God saved my life after suffering a postpartum hemorrhage, and I’m still here only because he had his way,” his mum, Adesua Etomi-Wellington wrote. While Banky expressed his joy over his son’s birthday, describing himself as the most blessed man alive.

5. Ethan Nwaneri becomes Premier League’s youngest player

Ethan Nwaneri, a midfielder for Arsenal F.C., became the Premier League’s youngest player on Sunday, September 18. According to reports, the 15-year-old checked into the game for Fabio Viera in the 90th minute of play at the Brentford Community Stadium in the United Kingdom. The record for youngest-ever senior player on Arsenal was previously held by Cesc Fabregas, who was 16 years of age at the time.

“It’s another step, another experience. In your career, all the steps are not going to be forward. After that maybe he needs three backwards to go another forward, but I think he deserved it,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said. “ It sends a really strong message about who we are as a club as well.” Arteta wanted Nwaneri to experience firsthand what it’s like to be a part of the club. Everything from staying in the hotel to game preparation, and also being involved with other players.
