The 77th Venice International Film Festival, organized by La Biennale di Venezia and directed by Alberto Barbera kicked off from the 2nd of September and ends on the 12th of September 2020. The festival, which is officially recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Association (FIAPF), is the first international festival since the coronavirus pandemic began and as it is, Venice has provided a template for those looking to stage high-profile events safely.
The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote international cinema in all its forms as art, entertainment, and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue. The Festival also organizes retrospectives and tributes to major figures as a contribution towards a better understanding of the history of cinema.
The 2020 Venice Film Festival may be about movies but as always, fashion competes for all the attention. There are a few standouts that caught our attention so far. This year, Cate Blanchett played into sustainable fashion by repeating her old outfits which had graced the red carpet before. Argentine model Cecilia Rodriguez for the premiere of Padrenostro, graced the carpet in a pleated metallic masterpiece while Senegalese model, Maty Fall Diba, who recently closed the Dior Resort 2021 show, stole the show in a cross-bodiced gown with a deep slit, against a muted pink palate.
The rest of the ladies in the A-list crowd of the international film industry have proven yet again that not even a global pandemic can stop the magic they bring to the red carpet.
