We Love To See It: See How These Stars Brought Black Beauty To Coveted September Covers

The past few months have been extra hard on Black people. Many of our favorite stars who happen to cover many of this year’s September issues have shared their experiences in a time like this and used the avenue to create conversations around racial injustice. All while serving high fashion and class!

What is the September issue?

Every month, magazines churn out a new edition of their publication. The September issue is basically the September edition. September issue 2020.

But what makes it different? What is the hype about?

In 2009, film director R.J. Cutler featured Vogue’s editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, in a documentary titled The September Issue. The documentary centered around Anna’s preparation for the 2007 September issue of Vogue. While the documentary received wide acclaim, including 5 nominations and 2 awards, the documentary only helped to increase the popularity of an issue that was already high up on the expectations scale.

For New York Times writer Alexandra Jacobs, the issue signifies the end of a lazy summer and the beginning of life’s many duties. “Even after one outgrows Seventeen and its ilk, a September issue signals ‘back to school.’ Autumn is the time of important cultural happenings, of re-engaging with the outside world and the intellect, after the sanctioned mindlessness and insularity of summer,” he said.

In the year 2018, we saw more black people on the covers of many magazines. During that time, black celebrities like Beyoncé, Tracee Ellis Ross, Rihanna, Tiffany Haddish, and Kanye West dominated the cover of September issues, challenging the stereotype that black people simply do not sell magazines. September issue 2020.

On the road to racial justice for all people of color, many more high fashion magazines have made efforts to show their commitment to diversity and inclusion. As part of these efforts, black celebrities and models have been revealed as the cover star of coveted September issues, from Vogue to Harper’s Bazaar. We’ve spotted a good number of our faves, including Nigerian stars like Burna Boy, and quite honestly, it’s all been such a beauty to behold.
