RMD boasts an enviable track record in the world of film and theatre and at 60, he shows no signs of slowing down.  Richard mofe damijo age

Currently, he is one of the few early Nollywood actors who has effectively transitioned into the new Nollywood era and he is as relevant today as he was in the 1990s. With several blockbusters to his name and a growing reputation as a style icon, we are certain that the world will be seeing more of RMD in many years to come.

RMD was born and raised in Delta state where he completed his primary and secondary education and was actively involved in drama and performing arts while in secondary school.  After obtaining his West African Senior School Certificate from Anglican Grammar School Warri, he proceeded to the University of Benin in Edo State for his tertiary education and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts. In 1997, he returned to the University to study law at the University of Lagos and graduated in 2004. He was called to the Nigerian bar in 2005.

RMD was married to his long-time girlfriend, Mary Ellen Ezekiel until her death in 1996, after which he remarried TV personality, Jumobi Adegbesan in 2000. He has four children: two with his current wife and two from his previous marriage.

The much-loved actor is also the proud grandfather of two – a girl and a boy. A few years ago, his first son, Oghenekome and wife, Eniola welcomed a baby girl and later a son.

Career

Although widely known as a talented actor, RMD actually began his career as a journalist. He reported for several prestigious newspapers and magazines including Concord Newspapers, Metro Magazine, and The Guardian. It was in this career he met his friend and first wife, Mary Ellen Ezekiel who was a magazine publisher.

In his early 30s he published Nigeria’s first all-gloss magazine for men which was called “Mister”. After a few years of running the successful magazine, he sold it for several millions.

Consequently, RMD quit journalism and joined the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) in the 1980s and took part in a television soap opera called “Ripples.” The series became very popular and skyrocketed him to fame.

Politics and more

In 2008, RMD was called to serve in government in Delta state. First as a Special Adviser to The Governor and subsequently, as the Honorable Commissioner of Culture and Tourism. During this time, he took time off from acting and was greatly missed by his large fan base. This was evident in how he broke the internet upon returning to the entertainment scene and reactivated his social media accounts.

Since his return, RMD has, as always, been the “hot cake” of not just fans but journalists, photographers, stylists, brands, writers and film-makers alike. He has been featured numerously in TV shows, movies, commercials and even represented Nigeria in the “Spyfie” global campaign for Heineken along with a few James Bond actors. Also, he is the current brand ambassador for Autochek, LG, Schweppes, Airopay and several others.

The veteran actor is the founder of RMD production, White Water Limited and RMD Foundation. The RMD Productions is an umbrella for RMDtvng and RMDtheactor. It is an entertainment platform that produces creative content, television and radio broadcasting productions, and more.

As an actor, he has starred in over 100 movies and series. This is remarkable for someone who has juggled acting, family, business, philanthropy and politics. In these movies and series, the ‘warri boy‘ makes it a point to make every performance memorable. This has definitely contributed to his god-status in the industry. Richard mofe damijo age
