elieve it or not, sometimes all you need to get by is a little red wine. Aside from its taste-buds-caressing effect, it’s also a morale booster. We agree with Ernest Hemmingway when he said: “I drink to make other people more interesting.”

Besides making people “more interesting,” red wine also boasts a lot of health benefits for you. From dealing with bad cholesterol to keeping your heart healthy and regulating blood sugar, there are numerous health-related reasons you should drink more red wine. So what are you waiting for?

Please note: This article is not a push toward getting drunk. This would only deplete your health, and that’s not the aim. If, on the other hand, you choose to do without vino rosso, you will be losing out on all the health benefits they provide. #1. Red wine and Type 2 diabetes

A 2015 study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine showed that drinking a glass of red wine with dinner “modestly decreases cardiometabolic risk” in people with type 2 diabetes and found that a moderate red wine intake is usually safe. The researchers believe that the ethanol in wine plays a crucial role in metabolizing glucose.

Regular and moderate consumption of red wine can effectively reduce the risks of certain types of cancers, including colon, prostate carcinoma, and ovarian cancers. The researchers used a dose of resveratrol on human cancer cells and found that it obstructs the key action of a cancer-aiding protein. It is important to note that over-consumption of alcohol, including red wine, may cause cancer.

Grapes, which red wine is made from, are rich in melatonin, the same compound that induces sleep in humans. This hormone is produced in our brains by the pineal gland, and grapes used to produce red wine contain more melatonin than our blood. Scientists believe that the melatonin content in red wine could be high enough to help us sleep.

Research has shown on multiple occasions that red wine is good for your gut health. For instance, a 2012 study found that “red wine compounds may also act as prebiotics,” thus, enabling healthy bacteria to thrive in your gut.

A 2013 study of 5,505 people over a seven-year period showed that those who drank between 2–7 glasses of wine each week had lower levels of depression. This worked both ways as the same research also revealed that people who drank heavily were more at risk for depression.
