nollywood-movies-netflix

The catalog of movies on Netflix, especially Nollywood movies is growing so large that sometimes you can spend an entire evening scrolling through the various titles in the throes of indecision until it is too late to start watching a two-hour movie. Even Netflix knows this and that’s the reason they recently released the Shuffle Play feature, that shuffles and plays anything.

Of course, you shouldn’t be shuffling your way through entertainment this holiday season. As a result, we’ve scrolled through the entire, boundless catalog to select some of the best Nollywood movies on Netflix so you can chill with ease. From remakes of classics, to modern comedy and everything in between, this curation will certainly keep you hooked through this month.

Here are 10 Nollywood movies to watch on Netflix…

#1. Living in Bondage: Breaking Free

What price are you willing to pay to live a luxurious lifestyle? Hard work or shortcuts? This is a sequel to the 1992 classic Living in Bondage movie which sheds more light on the existence of occult societies.

#2. Coming From Insanity

This I believe is one of the most underrated Nollywood movies ever! This is one crime drama that literally had me rooting for the criminal. Gabriel Afolayan as always brings his character to life in a spectacular fashion.

#3. Fine Wine

Does age really matter when it comes to love? A divorced and successful fifty-something-year-old businessman answers this question for himself when his heart wanders after a twenty-something-year-old. With the baggage of his ex-wife and the prying eyes of the public can they really make this work?

#4. The Arbitration

There are always three sides to every story. Yours, theirs, and the truth. When a workplace affair leads to an alleged rape case, an arbitration panel has to be set before things go out of hand. Who is telling the truth?

#5. Wives On Strike

In order for their voices to be heard on the issues of child marriage, the women decided to go on a strike from their ‘oza’ room duties. Will their voices be heard? As the saying goes, “build a woman, you build a nation.”

#6. October 1

This takes us back to the days just before the Nigerian Independence in 1960. Some believe the Nigerian Independence came too soon while others believed it was at the right time. Could the findings in the movie have made any difference?

#7. The Figurine

Two friends find a mystical sculpture that bestows good luck for seven years but has dark consequences in the years that follow those. What could the dark consequences be? Trust Kunle Afolayan to do justice to any movie.

#8. Skin

Would you change your skin color? Skin is a feature documentary about exploring through identity the meaning of beauty in all the different shades of black. It is set in present-day Lagos, where Nollywood actress Beverly Naya goes on a journey to learn about contrasting perceptions of beauty. She speaks to schoolchildren, traders, artists, beauty entrepreneurs, and sex workers.

#9. Amina

This is the first Nollywood movie to break into the top 10 ranks on the Netflix Global Top 10 List and for good reason. Amina is a feature film directed by Izu Okukwa that tells a true story based in the 16th-century revolving around the Zazzau empire warrior Queen Amina. She uses her military skills and tactics to protect her family’s kingdom.

#10. The Set Up

When the daughter of a deceased gangster is friends with a girl whose father has no qualms prostituting her, with the duo ending up working with a woman who is driven by love, loss, and revenge, then you know another banger has been made by Niyi Akinmolayan and Naz Onuzo. Just when you think you’ve got the movie all figured out, you realize that you have also been set up!
