Nigerian Artiste FALANA’s Style and Music Speaks On Identity and Self

Like an anthill or a beehive, the fashion and music industries never go on a break or a hiatus. Activities are occurring every minute of the day, as something is always being stirred up. For the most part, this is a good thing, because art is constantly created for the general population’s insatiable appetite. However, one of the downsides to this has to be the fact that with so much going on, often times, new artistes and creatives hardly get the chance to get a footing in the industry or make a name for themselves or brand. The few ones who do manage to make a name for themselves, in the end, are those that create art that is distinctive. These are the ones who don’t compromise on their originality in everything they do. One of such is Falana, a singer who’s already making waves in both the fashion and music industries.

Despite being active in the game for a relatively short time, Falana’s distinct sound and style has simultaneously garnered her to the heart of the general population. It has also helped her stand out from the crowd and has generated the attention of many more including international fashion magazines like Vogue and Elle.

Like her music, Falana’s style touches on Afrocentrism and centers on her Nigerian and African heritage whilst holding onto the modernity of fast fashion and contemporary art. This makes her interesting to watch, because her audience can see the pride she possesses whenever she performs modernized versions of the legendary Fela Kuti’s classics just as they can see the pride she has whenever she wears modernized African garments. It is a pride of self-awareness in one’s identity and heritage; and its past and present.

Take a look at her intriguing and eye-catching style…
