According to E! News, one of the world’s most popular couples, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are getting divorced after eight years together. “She is doing her thing and he is doing his,” a source reportedly shared with E! News in December. “She doesn’t micromanage it or worry about it too much. She lets him go off and be who he is. It is what it is.” The source added.
News of their breakup comes as a surprise as just last year, Kim and Kanye marked their fifth wedding anniversary by privately renewing their vows. The SKIMS founder opened up about the ceremony on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. “You are my husband,” she recited to son Psalm while practicing her vows. “You are my best friend. My biggest believer and my one true love.”
In 2012, Kim, 40, and Kanye, 43, took their years-long friendship to the next level after her infamous, 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries crumbled back in 2011. By June 2013, the power couple welcomed their first child together, North.
Kanye proposed to Kim in October 2013 at the AT&T Stadium in San Francisco. The superstar rapper rented out San Francisco’s AT&T baseball stadium for the surprise proposal, which Kim reportedly thought was a birthday celebration. Her family and friends stayed hidden under a sign that said, “PLEEEASE MARRY MEEEE!!!” Once Kim said yes, fireworks went off and her family stormed the field to congratulate them. It was truly romantic.
In May 2014, the pair cemented their relationship in an extravagant ceremony in Florence, Italy.
Following a difficult pregnancy, Kim gave birth to their second child, Saint, in December 2015. Due to her health complications, the couple decided to use a surrogate for their third and fourth babies. Daughter Chicago was born in January 2018 and son Psalm arrived just eight months ago in May 2019.
Throughout the ups and downs of their highly-publicized marriage, both Kim and Kanye showed unwavering loyalty to each other.
In July 2020, Kanye West took to his Twitter page to rant about his family, and two days later, Kim took to Twitter to defend him, asking that people show empathy as Kanye suffers from bipolar disorder.
On Twitter, Kim Kardashian said, “those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words sometimes do not align with his intentions.” She further revealed that she had previously avoided commenting on Kanye’s mental health in order to protect her children and Kanye’s right to privacy.
In breaking that silence, she said she wished to address the “stigma and misconceptions” surrounding mental health as well as plead with the media and the public to give their family “compassion and empathy” and thanked those who had expressed concern for her husband’s wellbeing.
After six years of marriage and more than eight years together, their loyalty to each other now appears to have reached its lowest point.
“It’s gotten to the point where they haven’t spent time together as a married couple in months,” a source shared with E! News exclusively. “They’ve seen each other for the sake of the kids but have been living separately. Kim knows the marriage is over. She’s known for a while.”
Kim, however, has yet to file for divorce. According to E!’s source, “She wants to make sure she’s making the right decision for the kids.”
“It’s not about the marriage anymore, she’ll always care for Kanye but it’s over between them. Kim is only focused on what’s best for the kids. It’s a tough decision for her and she’s figuring it out.” The source added.
