When we shared Kerry Washington’s ADWEEK Cover a day ago, we noticed she looked a bit different but attributed it to the face beat and figured it was the handwork of an overzealous makeup artist. Well, social media citizens weren’t having none of it as they went in on ADWEEK for manipulating Kerry’s look to an “unrecognizable” replica of herself.
After hours of silence, yesterday Kerry Washington addressed the outrage on social media over her unrecognizable cover for ADWEEK especially due to her skin being filtered to a fairer complexion. Always the class act, the star actress responded to the issue in an honest yet respectful manner that we bet even ADWEEK will honor.
According to her, “When they invited me to do a cover, I was excited and thrilled… And the truth is, I’m still excited. I’m proud of the article. And I like some of the inside images a great deal. But, I have to be honest… I was taken aback by the cover. Look, I’m no stranger to Photoshopping. It happens a lot. In a way, we have become a society of picture adjusters – who doesn’t love a filter?!? And I don’t always take these adjustments to task but I have had the opportunity to address the impact of my altered image in the past and I think it’s a valuable conversation.”
The actress who has handled a similar situation not too long ago like when InStyle magazine lightened her skin says now she is really tired of this…
