4. Famed singer and activist Harry Belafonte has died at 96

Famed activist and singer Harry Belafonte has died at 96. On Tuesday, April 25, Belafonte’s longtime spokesperson Ken Sunshine informed the media he passed away Tuesday morning of congestive heart failure. The Harlem-born actor is remembered as the “King of Calypso.” It was a title given to the late singer for his successful take on folk music, which was an expression of his Black and Caribbean experience. Born in 1927, Belafonte became a popular musician in his late 20s and early 30s.

The Caribbean-American pop artiste generated an international fan base with his critically acclaimed studio album Calypso in 1956. Billboard said it was also his second No. 1 on its Top Pop Albums chart. Around the 1960s, Belafonte began increasing his efforts with Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement.

Our condolences go out to his family and friends.

5. Romelu Lukaku offered Chelsea lifeline

Romelu Lukaku will be asked if he wishes to try and revive his Chelsea career under incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues are close to confirming former Spurs boss Pochettino as their permanent successor to Graham Potter, although Frank Lampard is set to remain in interim charge at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season. According to reports, attention is now turning to which Chelsea players could thrive under the Argentine, and it’s said that Lukaku will be offered the opportunity to reignite his stagnating career.

Lukaku was signed for a whopping £97.5 million ($120.9m) from Inter in 2021 but endured a nightmare return to the club he previously spent time at between 2011 and 2014. He managed just eight goals in 26 Premier League games, fell out with Thomas Tuchel, and irritated supporters with an infamous interview in which he admitted that he regretted leaving Italy. Lukaku returned to Inter on loan last summer, but the Nerazzurri have no interest in making the switch permanent as he has scored just five times in Serie A this season. However, Pochettino may favor reintegrating him into the squad once he takes over at Chelsea.
