Check out 7 easy DIY hair masks to make at home for rich and healthy hair…

#1. Greek yogurt + castor oil

Things needed: 1 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1 tbsp. castor oil, 1 tbsp. coconut oil, 1 egg

Process: Mix the Greek yogurt until smooth, and then add the other ingredients and stir until even. Apply the mixture to your hair, ensuring to massage your scalp during the process. Next, cover your hair with a plastic cap and leave it on for at least an hour. Finally, rinse thoroughly. You can do this once a week.

Purpose: Hair breakage repair. The protein in the Greek yogurt and eggs will help strengthen weak, dry hair strands and prevent breakage. The castor oil will not only nourish and thicken your hair but will serve as an emollient to prevent the hair from losing moisture and breaking.

#2. Cinnamon + coconut oil

Things needed: 1/4 cup of coconut oil and 1 tsp. of cinnamon

Process: Blend ingredients together until thoroughly combined. Then, apply the mask to your hair, making sure to massage it into your scalp. Let it sit for 30 to 45 minutes and rinse. Aim to do this mask at least once a week.

Purpose: This DIY hair mask is for hair growth. Cinnamon is an anti-microbial spice that is known to stimulate blood circulation, which can promote hair growth and strength. On the other hand, coconut oil can be used to relieve dandruff, restore luster to dry and damaged hair and protect hair against styling damage.

#3. Apple cider vinegar

Things needed: 1 part raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and 10 parts water.

Process: Mix the two ingredients. Next, apply to wet hair after conditioning, making sure to massage it into the scalp. Let it sit for five minutes before rinsing completely. You can use this every wash day.

Purpose: Use this to treat flakes and itchy scalp. Apple cider vinegar boasts an acidic nature and antimicrobial properties which makes this rinse perfect for cleansing your scalp and restoring shine. It can also balance your hair and scalp pH, making your hair easier to detangle, less frizzy, less prone to breakage, and more moisturized.

#4. Banana + almond oil

Things needed: 1 Banana (depending on the fullness of your hair), 2 tbsp. of almond oil.

Process: Begin by dicing the banana into tiny chunks before mashing. Next, mix in the 2 tbsp. of almond oil. You can use a blender for a smoother blend. Once the mixture is ready, apply it evenly through your hair. Of course, remember to also massage your scalp with the mixture using your fingertips. Finally, let it sit for 10-15mins before rinsing with warm water.

Purpose: This DIY hair mask helps to fight dandruff. Banana is rich in Vitamin B6, which can reduce symptoms like flaky and itchy scalp caused by skin conditions like seborrheic dermatitis. In addition, its high potassium content helps soften the hair and protect the hair’s natural elasticity.

#5. Coconut milk + honey

Things needed: 1/2 cup of coconut milk, 3 tbsp. of honey.

Process: In a bowl, combine coconut milk and honey properly. You can also use a blender for a smooth consistency. Afterwards, apply the mixture to your hair from root to tips. This should sit for about an hour, then proceed to rinse with lukewarm water. Follow that with a good shampoo-and-conditioning session as you would usually do.

Purpose: For shine and volume. This easy hair mask to make at home is proof that simple doesn’t mean ineffective as it packs a punch in increasing hair volume and shine. Coconut milk is a natural fatty acid, which means it intensively moisturizes your scalp. It also contains vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5, and B6 as well as iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. All of these nutrients mean that your scalp remains nourished and hair follicles are strengthened, thereby promoting hair growth. Meanwhile, honey restores shine and luster to dry, dull hair.

#6. Egg yolk + lemon

Things needed: 1 egg yolk, 2 tbsp. olive oil, and fresh lemon.

Process: In a bowl containing your egg yolk, mix in your olive oil and fresh lemon juice. Next, combine into a smooth mixture and apply to hair. Allow the mixture to sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing with cool water. (Emphasis on the cool water as you don’t intend to cook the egg).

Purpose: This DIY hair mask is great for correcting split ends. Eggs are super rich in protein, so you can expect that this mask will strengthen weak, dry hair strands and prevent breakage. Meanwhile, lemon contains limonene, which helps renew dry, frizzy, and rough hair. Finally, olive oil conditions dry hair, strengthens hair follicles, repairs damage, and keeps hair manageable, resulting in lesser hair fall.

#7. Avocado + mayonnaise

Things needed: 1 avocado, 3 tbsp. of mayonnaise.

Process: After slicing your avocado, put the flesh into a mixing bowl. Follow with the mayo and mix until smooth. Thereafter, apply to your hair and wear a shower cap. You can also wrap your hair in a damp towel if you don’t have a shower cap. Allow the mask to sit on your hair for 20 minutes. Then rinse with warm water followed by shampooing and conditioning the hair.

Purpose: Deep conditioning. Avocado is a great source of biotin and natural oils which strengthens your hair with a protective coating, prevents breakage, and promotes hair growth.
