This Embellished Fulani Inspired Braided Hairstyle Is Taking Over The World

As Africans we’ve naturally loved braided hairstyles for the longest. It’s part of what defines us and a part of who we are. What’s new is finding that braided hairstyles are once again taking over the world like it did in the 90s’, and this time inspiration is being taken from the Fulanis.

The Fulanis are one of the world’s largest nomads living in almost all parts of Africa, so it is not surprising that they leave trails of their culture in their wake. Fulani women are known for rocking some of the most intricate braided hairstyles with the most popular being the cornrows. Their unique style of cornrows is traditionally adorned with beads, fine metals and twine accessories, transforming the simplest of hairstyles into a work of art. But the accessories are not a must-add and only a matter of personal preference.

While Alicia Keys rocked Fulani-inspired braids back in the day, there’s a recent resurgence of this trend all thanks to Beyoncé and Solange Knowles. Nigerian superstar Tiwa Savage is one of the popular women who have also recently adopted the Fulani look.

When executed well, the Fulani cornrows is super stunning.  It is a great low-maintenance style that works with almost every face type, from oblong to round and a great hairstyle to wear if you’re looking to stand out in any gathering.

Be inspired by these variations of the Fulani Cornrows…
