5 Must Have Good Luck Charms for Every Bride | SR Bridal Tips

D

ecember is wedding season; everyone and their momma and grandma’s know it! There has practically been a wedding everyday since the first day of the month, if you’re in doubt, take a moment to think about it and then cross check on Instagram. As my way of saying congrats to all the soon to be brides and sharing in your excitement, here’s a thing or two you should keep in mind despite your super busy schedule.

As you count down to your big day, the excitement and tension build up can have you forgetting some important things. One which is the often-overlooked wedding poem/skit known to bring good luck to brides. If you’re wondering what it is, don’t beat yourself up. It’s only because it’s one of those traditions we only adopted from the western cultures; one that doesn’t seem to be quite popular in these parts.

The poem goes:

“Something old,

Something new,

Something borrowed,

Something blue,

And a silver sixpence in her shoe”.

Frequently referred to as the four “somethings”. Though most people find it superstitious, I’d say it’s the good kind of superstitious and definitely not the “juju” kind. The poem originated in Victorian England and according to pop culture, these small personal treasures, unique to each bride are tokens of good luck for the bride to carry on her wedding day.

‘Something Old’ represents family and continuity

‘Something New’ offers optimism for the future

‘Something Borrowed’ symbolizes borrowed happiness, usually borrowed from someone you know who has a happy marriage or another happy bride

‘Something blue’ stands for love, purity and fidelity

‘A sixpence in her shoe’ is a symbol for prosperity and wealth. However, since not everyone might have access to pence, any currency in coin will do.( If you ask me, the higher the value the better **wink wink**)

Every bride needs a burst of luck on her big day and so, if you haven’t added these good luck charms to your wedding must have list, then here’s your chance. Go on girl and get your luck on!

Thank me later! You’re welcome.
