4 Fashion Films You Should Add To Your Weekend Watch-list

As far as it can be remembered, the worlds of fashion and film have always coexisted. In fact, both industries have been influencing and inspiring each other since the earliest days of entertainment. This explains why the only thing that attempts to compete with the business of the day at award shows is what the celebrities are wearing.

Even in the making of films, very fashionable costumes and tasteful set designs are now highly recognized as major categories in the Oscars, BAFTAs and various other annual awards. This is because the costumes of a movie are crucial to the success of the final product.

No matter what your opinion is on the cinematic world, as a lover of fashion and style, there are some fashion-focused films you should see at least once. Whether it’s a great biopic about the legendary Coco Chanel or a chic movie about the running of a fashion magazine, these are four of the best fashion films you should add to your weekend watchlist.

#1. The Devil Wears Prada

There could be no fashion film list without The Devil Wears Prada. This is a cult classic movie that keeps one entertained from the very beginning. It is hilarious, educational and inspirational for any fashion lover. If Andy’s (Anne Hathaway) style post-Nigel’s intervention and Miranda Priestley’s (Meryl Streep) collection of coats and bags don’t inspire you, we don’t know what will.

#2. Coco Before Chanel

This film is about Gabrielle Chanel’s earlier days as a young seamstress who worked in a bar and had the dream of making hats for French high society. It focuses on a period in the designer’s life before she became the legend we know her as today. It shows us how she got inspiration for her designs as well. She was played by Audrey Tautou who delivered a fantastic performance.

#3. The September Issue

One of the most important films in fashion, The September Issue takes us into the life of Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. The two-hour film gives us a look into magazine corporate drama. It tracks the creation of the 2007 Vogue September Issue – the most read issue popularly known as the fashion bible.

#4. The Neon Demon

Elle Fanning plays Jesse, a young model who moves to Los Angeles to pursue her modelling dream. She is introduced into the scary world of fashion, beauty and style with a serious dark side. The costumes of The Neon Demon make this film worth watching.
