Nollywood actress, Sharon Ooja recently shared some interesting advice on the practice of giveaways. Due to the lockdown following the coronavirus pandemic, many people including Nigerian celebrities, have resorted to assisting others via social mediaa giveaways. Nigerian celebrity news

According to her, people doing giveaway to others should make sure their own families are not begging others for help. Taking to her Insta story to give the advice, Sharon Ooja stated that people doing giveaways should also ensure that their mothers aren’t queuing up for COVID-19 relief food aid.

She then wrote: “Help as much as you can, but charity begins at home. Send money to your family. You see that your aunty that always calls? Send her money. Help your extended family. Times are hard. Don’t be a hero in the streets and your family members are begging.”

2. ECOWAS leaders appoint Buhari as the champion of COVID-19 response

Presidents of West African countries, under the aegis of the Economic Community of West African States Authority of Heads of State and Government, have appointed the President, Muhammadu Buhari, Champion of their COVID-19 response.

According to a statement by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the appointment took place on Thursday at the Extraordinary ECOWAS Summit on COVID-19, which was held via teleconference under the Chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou.

During the teleconference, Buhari was said to have called on fellow ECOWAS leaders to look beyond the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and tap into various opportunities that it presents for the betterment of lives in the Member States. Nigerian celebrity news today


3. Ghana to test 8,000 police officers for coronavirus

More than 8,000 police officers deployed to enforce a lockdown in some parts of Ghana are being tested for coronavirus. The lockdown, which lasted for three weeks, was eased by President Akufo-Addo on Monday. But schools remain closed, a ban on public gatherings is still in force and the country’s borders have not reopened. Breaking Ghana news

In total, more than 30,000 members of the security forces were deployed nationwide to enforce the restrictions. The officers to be tested were on duty in the coronavirus hot spots. Around 800 people have been arrested for violating coronavirus restrictions and are facing prosecution. The West African nation has recorded 1,154 cases of COVID-19, including nine deaths.

4. Lebanon arrests suspect for putting Nigerian worker up ‘for sale’

Lebanese security forces have arrested a man suspected of putting a Nigerian domestic worker up for sale on a popular Facebook page used to trade everyday items such as furniture, food and shoes.

“Domestic worker of African citizenship (Nigerian) for sale with a new residency and full legal papers,” an account under the name Wael Jerro posted on the page, named Buy and Sell in Lebanon. The exact date of the post remains unclear.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday by Lebanon’s General Security agency, the country’s leading intelligence agency, which also controls entry and exit from the small Mediterranean nation. General Security said an investigation was underway in the case and warned that advertising people online violated the country’s human trafficking laws, subjecting perpetrators to prosecution.


5. Euro 2020 to keep original name despite a switch to 2021

The next European Championship will continue to be called Euro 2020 despite being postponed by a year to 2021, UEFA confirmed on Thursday.

Following an Executive Committee meeting of European football’s governing body by videoconference, UEFA said maintaining the same name would be a way of remembering the coronavirus pandemic and the difficult times faced by the continent this year as a result.

In addition and most importantly, UEFA had already produced huge amounts of branded merchandising before the tournament was put back by a year.
