1. Drake says he has a song with Rema
On Monday, April 6, Canadian superstar, Drake took to his Instagram page to have a live session during which he played a number of his favourite songs. One of the songs Drake played was Dumebi by fast rising Nigerian singer, Rema.
While playing Dumebi, Drake said, “Big up Rema too. We have a sick song together…” Drake also shared the snippet of a new song in the works titled ‘Pain 1993’ which was produced by Pi’erre Bourne and will reportedly feature on Playboy Carti’s upcoming album ‘Whole Lotta Red‘.
2. Private hospitals not allowed to treat COVID-19 – Abayomi
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, on Monday, said private hospitals are not allowed to treat COVID-19. Abayomi was speaking in Alausa, Ikeja, in reaction to a COVID-19 patient who died at a private hospital in Lagos.
He said: “We are not encouraging the private sector to manage COVID-19 at this point for a number of reasons. It is still an issue of the state and national security that cases of COVID-19 are managed in recognized facilities.”
“However, patients with pneumonia can be treated in a private hospital, but as soon as we know they are positive for COVID-19, we will endeavour to move them as fast as possible to an isolation facility. That is not always so easy, especially if the case is developing complications and they required ventilation.”
3. Chad’s ex-ruler Habre granted leave from prison
Chad’s former ruler Hissene Habre has been granted two months leave from prison in Senegal, where he is serving life for crimes against humanity. The prison is being used to hold new detainees in coronavirus quarantine.
Habre was convicted of crimes against humanity in 2016 and sentenced to life in prison at a landmark trial in Senegal. He was convicted of rape, sexual slavery and ordering killings during his rule from 1982 to 1990.
He denied accusations that he ordered the killing of 40,000 people during his rule. It was the first time an African Union-backed court had tried a former ruler for human rights abuses.
4. Boris Johnson ‘stable’ in intensive care
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was battling the coronavirus in intensive care on Tuesday, raising serious concerns about his health as the country recorded its highest daily death toll.
“The prime minister has been stable overnight and remains in good spirits,” his official spokesman told the media.
He said the 55-year-old Conservative leader was receiving standard oxygen treatment and breathing without any other assistance and had not required a ventilator.
5. Former FIFA executives accused of bribes over World Cup bidding
Former FIFA executives took bribes in return for voting for Russia and Qatar to host the World Cup, according to US prosecutors.
In what could be a highly significant twist in the FBI’s long-running investigation into allegations of football corruption, a new indictment was revealed in the US District Court on Monday.
The documents claim several former FIFA executive committee members “were offered or received bribes in connection with their votes.”
