1. Funke Akindele and husband sentenced

Funke Akindele and her husband, JJC Skillz have both been sentenced to 14 days in community service with a fine of ₦100,000 each. Funke Akindele and her husband JJC Skillz were sentenced by Chief magistrate Yewande Aje-Afunwa at the Ogba Magistrate Court on Monday, April 6, 2020, after the celebrity couple was found guilty of hosting a house party during the government-ordered lockdown.

According to the magistrate, the couple is also to go into self-isolation for fourteen days in an undisclosed location. The location where the couple will be self-isolating will be decided by the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

For the community service, they are to serve three hours per day excluding Saturdays and Sundays and must each visit 10 public places to educate people on the consequences of not complying with directives on coronavirus.

2. Naira Marley now in custody, to be arraigned

The Lagos State Police Command said Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley is now in its custody. The Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, made this revelation on Monday.

It was reported that the singer, actress Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello, were at a party in contravention with the lockdown order of the government as part of measures to curb cases of coronavirus in the state.

Elkana, who said on Sunday that the Police had launched a manhunt for the singer Naira Marley, revealed on Monday that the singer was now in police custody and would be charged to court accordingly.


3. Kenya bans travel in and out of capital

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that all travel in and out of the capital, Nairobi, will be banned for the next three weeks, starting at 19:00 local time (16:00 GMT) on Monday, April 6, as part of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

A ban on travel in and out of the coastal city of Mombasa and the nearby areas of Kilifi and Kwale will come into effect on Wednesday, April 8.

4. I’m in good spirits doing routine tests – Boris Johnson

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he is undergoing routine tests for coronavirus symptoms but was in good spirits and in touch with his team.

On the advice of my doctor, I went into the hospital for some routine tests as I’m still experiencing coronavirus symptoms,” Johnson said on Twitter.

I’m in good spirits and keeping in touch with my team as we work together to fight this virus and keep everyone safe.

UPDATE:

Prime Minister Boris Johnson was moved to intensive care after his condition (persistent cough and fever) worsened Monday afternoon, according to a Downing Street statement.


5. Pep Guardiola’s mother dies after contracting coronavirus

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s mother, Dolors Sala Carrio, has died aged 82, in Barcelona after contracting the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends,” said Manchester City on social media.

Monday’s increase of 637 coronavirus deaths means 13,055 have now died in Spain.

Last month, Guardiola donated 1m Euros (£920,000) to help fight the outbreak. The money will be used to purchase medical equipment and protective material for staff involved in treating those admitted to hospital.
