Barbadian singer, songwriter, actress, fashion and beauty mogul, Robyn Rihanna Fenty makes history by being the first person to ever wear a durag, made by famed British milliner Stephen Jones, on the cover of the British Vogue. The durag, which has become a staple accessory in modern black beauty and grooming, now gets a spot in high fashion.

For the May 2020 issue of British Vogue, which was created before the coronavirus pandemic, it’s been revealed that Rihanna features in not one but two covers!

The shoot was photographed by Steven Klein and styled by the editor-in-chief of British Vogue Edward Enninful, with hair by Riri’s long-time hairstylists Yusef Williams and Naphia White. For her glam, Isamaya Ffrench opted for a nude barely-there glam using Fenty Beauty products. Also worthy of mention is the blue “truth” face art which we are sure a lot of beauty enthusiasts would soon replicate during this quarantine period.

Rihanna has always been a source of inspiration for many and recently her foundation pledged $5 million to aid those on the front lines of the coronavirus fight. For her British Vogue cover interview, the superstar revealed three major things in addition to three things she definitely doesn’t have time for.

For starters, Rihanna does not have the time to soak hair extensions in apple cider vinegar before braiding them irrespective of how helpful that process might be as she does not want to end up “smelling like a mothball.” She does not have time for sleep and also does not have time for fussiness.

My two cents? Rihanna can surely get someone to soak her extensions any day, any time; heck I’ll do it! Secondly, I trust that she does actually sleep but what she means is she’d rather be building her empire than sleeping – listen, kids, rest is not an option but a necessity! Finally, I agree on that last point: ain’t nobody got time for fussiness.

Here are 3 major things Rihanna revealed in her British Vogue cover feature…

1. New music

Yes, we know The Navy has been waiting for R9 which is supposed to be Rihanna’s ninth studio album and if we are lucky, we might not wait for so long anymore. According to her interview, “I can’t say when I’m going to drop (it could even be out by the time you read this). But I am very aggressively working on music. I don’t want my albums to feel like themes. There are no rules. There’s no format. There’s just good music, and if I feel it, I’m putting it out. I feel like I have no boundaries. I’ve done everything – I’ve done all the hits, I’ve tried every genre – now I’m just, I’m wide open. I can make anything that I want.”

2. On The Fenty Conglomerate

With Fenty Maison, Rihanna became the first black woman to lead a luxury house, especially under LVMH. With Savage x Fenty, Rihanna empowered women with a variety of body types by letting them know that they deserve the right to feel sexy in their underwears. With Fenty beauty, it is safe to say that Rihanna created what the beauty industry now call ‘The Fenty Effect’ by helping to establish 40 shades as a new industry standard.

When it comes to her clothing line, Rihanna had this to say to the magazine, “…it is so easy to put something together for a runway because you have six months to perfect it in production. It’s so much more challenging to create something in a short amount of time and it is perfect. I refuse to release anything that is not up to par with my quality level. The angle of a hem, the size of a sleeve, the stitch… if it’s not the right stitch that I want…”

You’d also be shocked to know that despite her huge team, Rihanna still writes copies by herself. “Oh yeah! I write all of the copy for the websites, the product descriptions, product names, the colour names… I do have a huge team, but I just don’t necessarily think their tone is mine. I’d feel like a fraud selling something that I can’t stand by.” She shared.

3. On having kids

Rihanna also revealed that she works so hard now so that in the future, she won’t have to work at all. She wants to live differently and have three or four children whether she meets the right person or not. “I feel like society makes me want to feel like, ‘Oh, you got it wrong…’ They diminish you as a mother if there’s not a dad in your kids’ lives. But the only thing that matters is happiness, that’s the only healthy relationship between a parent and a child. That’s the only thing that can raise a child truly, is love.”
