Being a professional hijabi model signed to an agency piques the curiosity of most people and that is the case of Ikram Abdi Omar. In February 2018, Ikram stood out in Molly Goddard’s lineup at London Fashion Week, particularly because she was wearing a hijab. The show marked her debut on the London Fashion Week stage.

Born in Sweden to Somalian parents, the Bristol-scouted model who had previously worked with modesty-focused luxury fashion retailer, The Modist, shared that her LFW debut was a really amazing experience.

Sharing with Dazed,

“I was just excited. To be chosen to be part of this close-knit group of Molly’s friends and family was a great feeling and I loved meeting everyone and being included in it.”

The former Biomedical Science student who was listed among Dazed 100 in 2018 is fast becoming one of the most recognizable faces in the fashion world. Last month, she was revealed as the first hijabi model to be featured in Burberry’s festive campaign 2019. The campaign, shot by Mert & Marcus and tagged ‘What is Love’ runs till the end of December.

The 22-year-old is getting used to being first or among the firsts. She made previously made history in April 2019 when she was featured on the cover of Vogue Arabia alongside two other hijabi models; Halima Aden and Amina Adan.

This cover was the first of its kind as Vogue has never featured 3 hijab-wearing models on its cover. Ikram is joining her sisters in shattering stereotypes and allowing the world to see that wearing a hijab is a woman’s personal choice.

We can’t wait to see how the rising model continues to make her strides in the fashion world.

Take a look at some of Ikram Abdi Omar’s professional shots…
