2019 Lagos Fashion Week: The Most Rave-worthy Designs From The Runway – Day 4

Saturday, which marked the final day of the 2019 Heineken Lagos Fashion Week, had a lineup of designers no one could have afforded to miss. It was such an art-defining for the Nigerian and African fashion industry. From the choice of music for the runway shows to the spoken word poetry that closed off Ugo Monye’s show to the voice-over Maki Oh used, designers closed off Day 4 with a bang!

We can’t place whether it was the collection or the choir singing their renditions to popular and trendy songs, but one thing was clear, Mai Atafo did not come to play! Our respect for his craft soared higher with each look that came down the runway. Their closing walk as they signed off the show was equally outstanding.

Style Temple consistently reminds us that she doesn’t do fashion but indeed create style-defining pieces. After all, her designs are such that half of the styling the wearer needs come with the piece. Drapings, ruffles, metallics, deconstructed outfits, pleats, proportional plays and rich volumes are just a few of the details used to create this one-of-a-kind collection. Fit for the lady who loves to jet-set the world, the collection transitioned from daytime to nighttime looks effortlessly.

JZO took fashion inspiration from the Eastern and South-Southern regions of Nigeria as the brand put a spin on the classic George fabric. This is one spin the current generation of youths would definitely fall in love with as it offers the opportunity to wear a traditional fabric in designs that are very much contemporary.

House of Kaya took conservative fashion to new heights as the brand catered to the woman who wants to be all covered up but not lose her sense of style. Ruffled sleeves, exaggerated headpieces, minimal accessories, embellished abayas, luxury kimonos and more made up the looks in this sophisticated collection. This is definitely one collection every stylish Muslimah will surely covet.

Ejiro Amos Tafiri is yet another designer that played with volume. Besides the house’s use of flowy drapings, asymmetric and scalloped hemlines, feathers and other subtle details brought the collection alive in print fabrics, Aso Oke and lace. Much of the pieces in this collection are ideal for a glam vacay on an island nation or for just about any event where you want to steal the show.
