The past 18 months or so has been a tough period for the New York-based fashion brand, Marchesa. Founded in 2004 by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, the brand’s success among Hollywood stars was partly due to the influence of Harvey Weinstein, former husband of Chapman. “Weinstein reportedly pressured actresses who appeared in his films to wear the brand.” But things changed for the brand in October 2017, following multiple allegations of sexual harassment or abuse against Weinstein by over 80 women.
Marchesa’s popularity was largely affected as many celebrities shunned the brand even with Georgina Chapman’s prompt announcement that she was leaving Weinstein.
With the release of their Resort 2020 cruise collection, the brand reminds us why they still deserve a place at the top. The Marchesa Resort 2020 cruise collection features exquisite evening dresses made of tulle, silk, organza and taffeta with floral patterns. The designs come in bold, dreamy and ombré coloured fabrics embellished with precious stones and pearls, thread work feathers, hand-appliquéd crystals, 3-D embroideries and more captivating details.
According to the brand, the 3D silk organza flowers from the collection were individually hand-cut and delicately folded into natural looking blooms.
For their Resort 2020 collection, Marchesa combined both daywear and nighttime couture looks which would work perfectly for brides, celebrities on the red carpet or a woman who wants to be able to make a statement at any point in time.
The mix in the collection shows just how the Marchesa woman would want to look pretty for an afternoon tea in shorter lace and floral pieces then opt for the stunning luxurious dresses as she switches things up for a wedding party.
Here’s a look at a few of our favourite pieces from the collection…
