The summer transfer window is here and we’re growing increasingly expectant to see the transfer deals that the top teams will bring in to bolster their team for the coming season.
Over the years, we’ve seen outrageous amounts being paid for players and clubs continuously having to break their transfer records. To be honest, it gives teams on a low budget little to no chance at all when it comes to acquiring the services of the so-called top-rated soccer stars.
These days we’ve come to accept it as how the market works because of the impact of inflation. No other meaningful explanation works, to be honest. Agents are also partly responsible for player price increase as they continue to find ways to jerk up their commission during sales.
Anyways let’s get down to business. These are 15 of the biggest money moves we are likely to see during this transfer window...
1. Neymar Jr (PSG to Real Madrid)
Currently, the most expensive player in the world, Neymar has his mind set on being a part of Zidane’s Galacticos. Reports suggest that a move would cost Los Blancos nothing less than £180m to £200m.
The Real Madrid boss has spoken very highly of the Brazilian and with the mammoth transfer chest at his disposal this summer, he could be tempted to sanction the transfer.
2. Kylian Mbappé (PSG to Real Madrid)
He is rumoured to be the number one priority for Real Madrid President Florentino Perez who has admitted that part of Zidane’s job back as a manager is to persuade his fellow Frenchman to consider a move to the Spanish Capital.
A deal would, however, be difficult because PSG would be very reluctant to let their golden boy go, much less on the cheap. Real Madrid would have to cough up nothing less than the £180m the Ligue one side spent to acquire his services.
3. Eden Hazard (Chelsea to Real Madrid)
The never-ending courting and flirting between Hazard and Real Madrid is legendary. The rumours fuelled by both parties have picked up in recent months with varying reports suggesting a deal is already done.
Considered one of the Premier League’s finest and being at the peak of his career, the Belgian is open to a new adventure outside England and has already made it known he prefers Madrid.
Having bade fans something like a goodbye after their Europa Cup win, it seems to be only a matter of when for the playmaker.
Chelsea Boss Maurizio Sarri has promised that the club will honour his decision to either stay or leave. They are reportedly set to demand £105m-£110m.
4. Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax to Barcelona)
Perhaps the hottest teenage name in the transfer window this summer, the 19-year-old Ajax defender has been rated highly and is reported to be on the radar of several of the top clubs in Europe.
Spanish champions Barcelona reportedly lead the race to sign the Dutch defender despite heavy links to Manchester United.
Having seen teammate Frenkie de Jong sign with the Catalan Club, De Ligt could be tempted to follow suit. Ajax values him at £80m and if the deal follows through, he would break the record for the most expensive defender in the world which is held by Liverpool’s £75m Virgil van Dijk.
5. Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid to Barcelona)
The controversy surrounding Griezmann’s decision to leave Atletico is a rather awkward one. The Frenchman has come under fire by the fans and even the president of the club who never thought he would decide to leave after pledging his affiliations to the club only last year.
Barcelona has made several advances but has been repeatedly turned down, with the forward opting to remain at Atletico.
But having finally decided to leave, reports suggest he may have decided to sign with the Spanish Champions after all. He is reportedly valued at around £100m by the Madrid side.
6. Leroy Sané (Manchester City to Bayern Munich)
It is reported that the German wants a move away from Manchester City as he has become unhappy because of his lack of playing time. The winger seems to have had his mind made up as he has put contract extension talks on hold.
German champions Bayern have publicly declared their interest in the 23-year-old. They have however admitted that the financial implications may be heavy.
Reports of a £70m bid from the Bavarians a few days ago, was turned down by the English side.
7. Luka Jovic (Eintracht Frankfurt to Real Madrid)
Finishing the season as one of the Bundesliga top scorers, the Frankfurt man has enjoyed a sensational season which has caught the eyes of many of the top clubs especially Real Madrid.
Still, in search for a goal scorer that could replace Ronaldo (well maybe not replace but you know what I mean), Los Blancos find Jovic as a suitable candidate to provide the much-needed goals the team has lacked.
Reports suggest that Real Madrid are willing to meet the €60m evaluation of the player. It has also been reported that the forward is keen and has informed close family and friends of the move.
8. David De Gea (Manchester United to PSG)
After enduring one of the worst campaigns of his career, Manchester United Goalkeeper De Gea has made it clear he wants to leave the club.
Reports suggest that the Spanish goalkeeper has grown frustrated with the way the club is run by the club’s hierarchy which has failed to recruit good enough players.
Talks over a 350k-a-week contract extension have stalled, forcing the club to trigger a year-on option to buy time to sell him and bring in a replacement.
French champions PSG are said to be monitoring the situation as they prepare for life without Buffon. They would look to consider triggering De Gea’s buy-out clause which is rumoured to be around £50m.
9. Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid to Manchester United)
The man who is heavily tipped to replace David De Gea if the Spaniard decides to leave is none other than Atleti’s Jan Oblak.
The Slovakian has become one of the world’s most elite shot stoppers winning the Spanish golden glove four years in a row.
Manchester United are reportedly lining him up as replacement goalkeeper and are set to trigger his mammoth €120m release clause to secure his services.
10. Paul Pogba (Manchester United to Real Madrid)
The embattled Frenchman is said to be eyeing a move to Madrid this summer having spoken very fondly about the club and its manager.
He has expressed his desire to work with his fellow countryman in Spain and the Madrid boss hasn’t refuted speculations about the move.
Manchester United are reluctant to let the midfielder go and have slapped a £130m price tag on him.
11. James Rodríguez (Real Madrid to Manchester United)
Manchester United has lined up James Rodriguez as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba if he decides to leave.
It is understood that the Columbian will not be staying with Bayern Munich now that his loan spell is over. He doesn’t plan on going back to his parent club either as he feels he’s not wanted at the club.
This could pave a way for his move to the Premier League. The midfielder is valued at about £60m.
12. Joao Cancelo (Juventus to Manchester City)
Manchester City is in search of a holding midfielder and has identified Cancelo as the ideal player for the role.
However, Juventus are reluctant to let their player go and have tried to ward off interests from several top clubs including City. But with a new coach expected soon, anything could happen. The player is rated nothing less than £60m.
13. Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United to Inter Milan)
Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku is reportedly set to leave the club.
Having not quite lived up to expectations since his big-money move from Everton, the Belgian is in search of a new challenge and has identified Italy as his most likely destination.
Inter Milan new boss Antonio Conté is said to have a huge admiration for the striker and would like to make him his first signing.
United are open to the move but will only let him go if they could recoup the £75m they paid to secure his services.
14. Tanguy Ndombélé (Lyon to Juventus)
The Lyon midfielder has garnered a lot of plaudits for his exceptional displays this season. He has also attracted the interests of several top clubs including Manchester United, Tottenham and Juventus.
However, reports suggest that the Frenchman is close to agreeing to a deal with the Bianconeri. Lyon president has confirmed talks with top clubs and has also admitted to contacting PSG for a potential deal as well. The player is valued at above £60m.
15. Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona to Chelsea)
Chelsea is reportedly resigned to losing their playmaker Eden Hazard and are working on bringing a suitable replacement.
They have lined up Coutinho who has struggled to impress since his big-money move to Barcelona. The Brazilian could be on his way out if the Spanish champions succeed in landing Griezmann this summer.
Although limited by a transfer ban at the moment, the Blues are hopeful the ban will be lifted and they could acquire the services of the former Liverpool player who is valued at £130m but they face serious competition from PSG.
Some other players who could make big money moves in the summer include Joao Felix, Rodrigo, Douglas Costa, Koulibaly and others.
