Florence, Italy is known mainly for two things; being the birthplace of the Renaissance and a fashion hot spot. Pitti Uomo is a biannual event that epitomizes the fashion of the city and has been tagged as the most important international event for menswear and men accessories collections.
For over 60 years, Pitti Uomo which was founded in February 1952 by nobleman Giovanni Battista Giorgini, has been one of the major and most important men’s fashion trade fairs globally. It has also been Italy’s leading fashion sphere for ready-to-wear items.
Every year, four days in January and June are reserved for the event which attracts many of the fashion industry’s finest and takes place in the Fortezza da Basso. Before the location got moved to the Fortezza de Basso in 1982, it was held at the Sala Bianca in Pitti Palace.
Shortly after London Fashion Week Men’s, fashion elites headed to Florence for Pitti Uomo Spring/Summer 2020 which ran between June 11 and 14. Thanks to the event’s ever-ascending status on the men’s fashion calendar, Florence hosts some of the most stylish people on earth. As usual, the street style at the event this season was incredible. The gentlemen showed up in crisp but comfy suits, bold designs, graphic T-shirts, all kinds of statement-making hats, and of course, covetable shoes.
With all the catchy and trendy styles at the Pitti Uomo, one person’s style definitely caught our attention. Nigerian-born, London-based menswear creative director, Gabriel Akinosho has never not been stylish. At the Pitti Uomo Spring/Summer 2019, he was edgy and elegant throughout the four-day long event. His sartorial style was uncontested! This is because of his keen attention to details. His approach to the little things and the perfect finish to every outfit was obvious.
He reveled in tailor-made pieces, while he conceptualized the very meaning of dapper fashion. Even when he dressed in a laid-back, casual look, he flourished. His crisp accessories were second to none and embodied what an impeccably stylish man should be. But he wasn’t alone, he was surrounded by a crew that echoed his sartorial eloquence.
