Every week, we scour the music world to bring you all the songs you need to catch up on in this fast-paced world. If a song is worthy of your ears and attention, just like Kizz Daniel’s Eko, you’ll find it here.
For this weekend, we go on a trip around Africa to bring you the latest rave-worthy African songs to help you
shaku glide through the weekend. From Sauti Sol in Kenya to Ghana’s Sarkodie rendering his lines in Twi and Nigeria’s Mavin telling us “all is in order,” it’s time to jam to some good African music.
Here are 7 of the hottest new songs around Africa…
1. Kizz Daniel – Eko
Mixed by Swaps, the track Eko by FlyBoy Inc.’s boss Kizz Daniel is a tribute to the megacity Lagos. This is a follow up to his Fvck You song which inspired the #FvckYouChallenge that had stars from all over jumping on the beat to create their own covers.
2. Mavins ft. Don Jazzy, Rema, Korede Bello, DNA and Crayon – All Is In Order
With the exit of Tiwa Savage from the label, Don Jazzy and the Mavin team releases their latest single to assure us that all is in order. Don Jazzy used this as an opportunity to show off a newly signed artist – Crayon. This is coming not too long after he signed on the Dumebi crooner, Rema. Rema is signed to Jonzing and Mavin Records while Crayon is signed to an imprint of Mavin Records – Blowtime Entertainment, owned by producer, Baby Fresh. The video shot by Clarence Peters also features sensational Instagram choir known as the Kabusa Oriental Choir.
3. Sarkodie ft. Joey B – Legend
To say Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie is a legend would be saying the truth! The way he switches from Twi to English with ease while delivering is lines is nothing short of amazing. The single which features Joey B and produced by Nova is off his upcoming Alpha EP. This is not just your ordinary song as Sarkodie has a message for the youths. In his lyrics, he says “it is better to walk with a friend that will motivate you than to lead in a group. Opportunity go come and go but all you got is time.” This is definitely a must listen!
4. Skiibii, Falz, Teni, DJ Neptune – Daz How Star Do
If you want to know how stars do, then you should watch this. Skiibii is not alone in his much anticipated collaborative effort as he teams up with the president of the Sweet Boys Association Falz, the Sugar Mummy Teni who pulls up in her white Lambo in the video and the prolific DJ Neptune. Produced by Jaysynths Beatz, mixed and mastered by SWAPS, this is Skiibii’s second official single of the year.
5. Skales – Ego
How is your leg work? You sure are going to need it for this one. Being his second official single of the year, Baseline Music singer Skales went all out on the Ego track as produced by Chopstix. After the release of Ego – which means money in the Igbo dialect – Skales informed his fans that this might be his last song for the year. In this single, Skales talks about wanting to rock some expensive designers but the money is limited and so he cuts his coat according to his pocket.
6. Ladipoe – Devil You Need (Freestyle)
Just after the release of the video for his debut single of the year, Jaiye, Mavin Records wordsmith, Ladipoe decided to bless our timelines again with an impressive freestyle – Devil You Need. The track which was produced by fast-rising record producer, Yazidxo and co-produced by HonterOnTheBeat, had Poe giving us punchlines as usual.
7. Sauti Sol ft. Bensoul, Nviiri the Storyteller, Crystal Asige, Kaskazini – Extravaganza
Now, the Rhumba vibes in this song got me digging deep into my dance archives for the Rhumba dance which I haven’t done in forever. The Kenyan Afro-pop band, Sauti Sol definitely did a great one with Extravaganza in which they featured Bensoul, Crystal Asige, Nviiri the Storyteller and Kaskazini. The song talks about them always being ahead of their haters and those who try to stop them.
