Lebanese fashion designer, Elie Saab, took to Paris Fashion Week to release a flamboyant Spring/Summer 2019 couture collection. In 2018, the brand’s SS18 Haute Couture collection paid homage to Paris in the ’20s. This year, the designer decided to celebrate the magic of femininity with a focus on sea life.
From sequined blazers and outerwear to Hollywood-glam gowns, Elie Saab made it clear that he is designing for the woman who wants beautiful and uncomplicated clothes to wear to major occasions.
The collection featured an aquatic palette with coral-like branches of lace and sequins creeping across the bodies of tailored pantsuits and gowns or used as allover patterns on tulle dresses with organic necklines. Ripples and the forms of underwater flora through undulating layers, plissé effects and flounces on high-split gowns were also evoked.
Couture swimwear added a fun touch amid the aquatic musing alongside some figure-hugging mermaid cuts. The accessories included single gem-slice earrings, fishnet-inspired chains embellished with aquatic stones and retro large-framed eyewear evoking glamorous sea-goggles.
