Creative director of Moschino, Jeremy Scott, took the Moschino Fall / Winter 2019 Menswear and Women’s Pre-collection to Rome as he showed off his latest designs at the Cinecittà studios. We all know that Rome is full of history, magic and breathtaking architecture; well, Jeremy believes that behind the old columns is hiding the magnificent city of Rome.
For the Moschino Roma show, the director told WWD that the collection is his way of paying homage to the great Federico Fellini who filmed some of his most iconic films in Rome. According to him, “I’ve taken inspiration from his body of work and the amazing characters he has created from the films Roma, La Dolce Vita, Satyricon, 8 1/2 and Casanova, to name a few.”
The Moschino collection featured herringbone tweed topcoats with starkly contrasting satin bows, tailored coatdresses with ancient font embroideries, chandelier earrings, trompe l’oeil sequined officer coats, a finely beaded lattice embroidery on a suit under a technical parka, a spin on the white-tie dressing, high-piled wigs, Old Roman iconography, gladiator corset, exaggerated silhouettes and more.
From Mayowa Nicholas to Anita Ekberg – the actress who famously waded into Rome’s Trevi Fountain in La Dolce Vita, the models showed off a truly beautiful collection. Also in the model lineup was David Obennebo, who like Mayowa, was discovered by Beth Model Management, Lagos.
