African Pilgrimage: Boz Saint John And Boris Kodjoe Led African-American Celebs To Ghana For Full Circle Fest

For the purpose of honouring their African ancestry and in celebration of a royal legacy and heritage, Ghana played host to a number of African-born and African-American celebrities under a multi-day event tagged Full Circle Festival. The event which spanned the last few days of 2018 through the beginning of the new year, was chaired by President Nana Akufo-Addo and was coordinated by German-Ghanaian Hollywood actor, Boris Kodjoe and marketing expert, Bozoma Saint John, along with the Ghanaian Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Business Development and the Office of Diaspora Affairs.

The event can be likened to a first-class cultural pilgrimage trip as the celebrities in attendance visited historical sites and even had breakfast with the president among other culturally symbolic adventures.

Stars like Anthony Anderson, Nicole Ari Parker, Ebro Darden, Michael Jai White, A.J. Johnson, Rosario Dawson, Omari Hardwick, Real Housewife Of Atlanta cast member, Cynthia Bailey and her partner, Mike Hill were part of the trip.

Also in attendance were Naomi Campbell, Idris Elba and his kids Isan and Winston Elba, Djimon Gaston Hounsou, hip-hop artiste Jidenna, best selling author Luvvie Ajayi and Okay Africa’s Abiola Oke, to mention but a few were also a part of the festival.

According to Bozoma Saint John, 2019 marks 400 years since the beginning of the slave trade in West Africa. The Full Circle Festival was therefore inaugurated to coincide with this monumental anniversary.

HAPPY NEW YEAR (Part 4 of a 4 part night!) I’ve spent every new year of the last decade by the ocean… in St Barth’s, Anguilla, Nice, Malibu etc. Last year, I brought @boriskodjoe, @nicoleariparker & @yvonneorji to the beach in Accra at the suggestion of @bentsifi to watch the sun rise. This year is no different in watching the dawn off the coast of Ghana. But it does hold more significance since 2019 marks 400 years since the beginning of the transatlantic slave trade. So we gathered our friends and family, held hands, jumped in the waves, howled in sorrow for our ancestors who crossed or died in these waters, cheered as @theajzone was baptized in the same waters, and screamed with joy for our gift of today. We welcomed the rising of a brand new day in a brand new year! #ForTheAncestors #HappyNewYear #Rebirth #WAVsHoliday #FullCircleFestival2018 #YearOfReturn2019
