November 9 was definitely a night to remember as Victoria Secret’s angels took to the runway for the brand’s annual lingerie show. This year, the epic show took place in New York as opposed to far away China where it was hosted last year. Top models Adriana Lima, Kendall Jenner, Behati Prinsloo, Bella and Gigi Hadid were among the sea of models who spread their wings at this year’s show.
There were a lot of remarkable moments during the show. The high/low point was when Adriana Lima burst into tears as she took her final walk. The 37-year-old supermodel who started on the VS runway in 1999 has the title of the longest standing Angel. Taking her bow, she thanked the crowd and the brand as she closed the show with hands on her chest. On her Instagram she wrote:
“Dear Victoria, thank you for showing me the world, sharing your secrets and most importantly not just giving me wings, but teaching me to fly.”
Before Adriana bid farewell to the stage that housed her for 19 consecutive years, Behati Prinsloo also felt emotional as she returned to strutting on the runway in her underwear for the first time after giving birth to her second child. Her husband Adam Levine, frontman for Maroon 5, was in the front row to cheer her on.
The Hadid sisters, Bella and Gigi reuniting on the catwalk created another memorable moment since setting the record as the first sisters to walk the show. Another big moment was Nigeria’s Mayowa Nicholas on the runway; the rising top model took to Instagram to share the following
“What a day! Beyond thrilled for you guys to watch this show. Today was a moment to remember not only did I get to walk with the most beautiful and powerful women, but my one and only inspiration (my mom) got to watch me in the audience living this dream. To all the girls reading this, I hope you feel represented and know that your dreams are valid as long as you’re alive and ready to work hard in achieving them. Thank you @victoriassecret @johndavidpfeiffer @10magazine for this moment.❤️
Last year, due to circumstances beyond her control, Mayowa was unable to walk in the Shanghai show; however, she made the cut once again this year and was able to walk the runway, making her the second Nigerian on the VS show after Oluchi Orlandi.
For this year’s show, there were less outrageous outfits and fewer wings. Instead of loads of fluffy feathers like we are used to seeing, the interpretations were more celestial with lots of stars and a moon involved. There were also some insanely dramatic bold prints that almost overshadowed the lacy lingerie. All in all, the show was a delight as always.
Here are some of the best looks from the show…
