Ethereal Beauty! Azzi And Osta Pay Homage To The 17th Century With Their SS18 Collection Tagged ‘Marie de’ Medici’ | Lookbook

Fashion brand Azzi and Osta is the brainchild of designer duo, George Azzi and Assaad Osta, who dressed Beyonce Knowles Carter recently for the pre-Grammy award party. before launching their own brand, the duo interned as assistant designers at Elie Saab where they came to understand female proportions and build a friendship that has stood the test of time. This friendship led to the launch of their brand in 2010 with a passion for creating the perfect pieces.

For their Spring/Summer 2018 collection, the duo mended the bridge between the Baroque period’s unique artistry and today’s fashion world. They drew inspiration from the life of Marie de’ Medici, vividly described through the eyes – better yet, hands – of renowned Baroque artist Peter Paul Rubens’ in his Marie de’ Medici Cycle. The collection features dramatic silhouettes and the 17th century opulence reflected on today’s modern woman. Intricately embroidered billowing capes, contoured silhouettes, diaphanous gowns and exaggerated volumes were not left out as they used elegant colours that skewed from whites, purples, pinks and golds.

This is a collection that stretches way beyond the borders of fashion, recreating the past with delicate fabrics – from silks to satins to tulles – and enrapturing us in a delightful journey through the beauty of art, fashion and whatever comes in between!
