How To Care For Your Denim / Jeans

Taking good care of your clothes can not be overemphasized. For you to look smart, sharp and make a lasting impression, your image matters and this image means more than simply wearing nice clothes but ensuring that your clothes always look and smell nice come what may.

Among other subjects, denim is also tricky especially when it comes to caring for them because as tough as they may seem, they are delicate in their own right and a lot of factors like the wash, stretch, colour and frequency of uses have to be put in consideration. So without further ado, following these 10 steps in caring for your denim will ensure longevity.

  1.  Raw denim that is, super-stiff jeans with no washes, can take up to six months to break in and so shouldn’t be washed until then. This is because jeans conform to your body, and when you wash them at the stage, most of the fit and shape is lost.
  2. Treated / regular jeans  (pre-washed to achieve a faded look) can be washed more often than they former because don’t need to be broken in.
  3. Wash jeans only when they are stained or start to sag. In this case, the wash and dry effect will shrink the jeans, bringing it back to its original fit.
  4. To remove odors from your jeans, hang them in the bathroom before you shower so that the damp steam will work its way into the jeans, keeping them fresh between washes. You can also freeze them in a plastic bag for about a day or two depending.
  5. When jeans aren’t stained or saggy but feel a little dirty, clean with a damp cloth, Also remember that air drying your jeans in the sun will also remove unwanted fashionable clothes. pile of jeans on a wooden background odors.
  6. Always wash jeans inside out in cold water on the delicate cycle, or by hand as denim fades when washed once in hot water.
  7. Add a 1/2 spoon of salt or 1/2 a cup of distilled white vinegar to the final rinse cycle while doing laundry to maintain the wash of your favorite pair of dark jeans. This will stop the dark colors from running.
  8. Always air dry your jeans, try as much as possible not to machine dry. However, if you must,  do it at a very low temperature using lowest possible heat setting, and ensure to remove the jeans before they’re completely dry.
  9. When air drying your jeans, make sure they are still inside out, lay flat or hang upside down to dry.
  10. Do not pack folded pairs of jeans too tightly together on a shelf or wardrobe. Denims need air, they need to breathe.
