Viola Davis Honored with a Star on The HollyWood Walk of Fame

We are reminded of Viola Davis from the groundbreaking honour of 2015 as the first ever black woman of any nationality to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and also for that ‘diversity and inclusions’ inspired acceptance speech that gained major popularity as she stated:

“…The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity.”

~ Viola Davis

Viola has since continued to set the world on fire with her phenomenal interpretation of roles. She is also known from her many outstanding performances from theater to film, some of which are: Get on Up; a biopic of James Brown, The Help; which she got two Screen Actors Guild Awards for, plus a Golden Globe and BAFTA nomination in 2011. She also starred alongside Chris Hemsworth on Black hat in 2015, and also produced and featured in Lila and Eve with Jennifer Lopez.

On Thursday 5th January, Viola Davis received yet another honour, as the Walk of Fame Committee of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce presented her with a Star. Lebron Gubler, the President/CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce during the star ceremony, recounted viola’s remarkable performances from over the years and declared the 5th of january Viola Davis day in Hollywood.

Meryl Streep who presented this honor to Viola along with the chamber of commerce, also accredited Viola thus:

“Viola Davis is possessed… of a blazing incandescent talent. There is something Viola Davis can’t do… she can’t be invisible… and her Star has been waiting patiently for her here for 50 years… Let’s immortalize her in cement.”

Receiving the Honor Viola admits how honored she feels, most of all how she blessed she feels. She was close to tears taken aback by how far she’s come from that child overwhelmed with dreams and not knowing how they would come through, to having Meryl Streep at her Star Ceremony.

She sums it up in this statement,

“What the caterpillar sees as the end of the road, is what the master calls the butterfly. I cannot believe my life right now. Awww! What a beautiful way to begin the year. Congratulations Viola Davis.”
