1. Jay-Z, Fela Kuti, Mary J. Blige and more nominated to 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame released its nominee list for the 2021 induction ceremony and it’s loaded with familiar names for Hip-Hop heads. A few of the most notable nominees include Jay-Z, LL Cool J and Mary J. Blige as well Dionne Warwick and Chaka Khan.

The rest of the 16 nominees are rounded out by Fela Kuti, Kate Bush, Devo, Foo Fighters, the Go-Go’s, Iron Maiden, Carole King, New York Dolls, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner, and Rage Against the Machine.

To be eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, your first commercial album must have been released at least 25 years ago. The shortlist will be further pruned in May with a proper induction ceremony to go down in the Fall.

2. Nigeria: Wizkid cancels Tiny Desk concert performance

Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun known professionally as Wizkid has canceled his Tiny Desk performance. On February 9, 2021, the management of NPR, organizers of the concert, took to their ‘Insta story’ to release a statement citing reasons why Wizkid won’t be performing at the Tiny Desk for Black History Month. Wizkid’s absence this year is based on the travel restrictions placed by the UK due to COVID-related issues.

Wizkid was billed to perform on NPR’s concert for Black Month History alongside Davido and some other international acts. The virtual event kicked off on 2nd February 2021.

3. South Africa: ‘Blood & Water’ introduces new cast for season 2

The much anticipated season two of the hugely popular teen drama “Blood & Water,” is currently in production in Cape Town, Netflix has just announced that new characters will be joining the already fabulous cast. The new kids on the block will be adding a little extra fire to the story line, as they get involved in scandalous behavior turning the lives of the Parkhurst students upside down.

On social media, Netflix posted a fun video of the cast with the caption, “The cast of #BloodAndWater are back with some new friends to make our 2021 SO. MUCH. BETTER! ?.”

4. Ghana: Veteran actor Kojo Dadson passes on

Veteran actor Emmanuel Kojo Dadson has passed on at age 68. He died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Tuesday, February 9, while undergoing dialysis for kidney issues. Kojo Dadson, who gained fame for his role in productions such as “Home Sweet Home” had been recovering from a stroke he suffered in 2012 which also kept him wheelchair-bound for eight years.

His brother, PaJohn Bentsifi Dadson, well known on the arts and entertainment scene said he died exactly two weeks after his beloved wife passed away.

May his soul rest in peace and our condolences to his family and friends.

5. PSG star Neymar in doubt for Barcelona Champions League clash after injury

Paris Saint-Germain faces a nervous wait to discover the extent of Neymar’s injury on his left adductor muscle after the Brazilian was withdrawn on Wednesday’s Coupe de France clash with Caen.

The Ligue 1 champions kick off their Champions League last-16 tie against Barcelona next week, having fallen at the final stage in 2019-20. They will be desperate to count on the abilities of their star striker, who has missed several key fixtures for his club in the competition.
