As January comes to an end, the count down to the 15th of February when Marvel’s Black Panther will premiere in cinemas worldwide is officially on. The Hollywood premiere of the movie, one of 2018’s most anticipated films took place on the 29th of January 2018 at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles. It was a night that celebrated black excellence, and a who’s who of artists in film and music who coordinated to wear colourful, African-themed looks.
The event strayed away from the regular as it featured a regal purple carpet, where Black Panther stars like Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, and Michael B. Jordan as well as guests like Issa Rae and Janelle Monáe who walked it, wholly embraced the requested dress code of African ‘royal attire’.
Africans all over the world have also taken to social media to share their support as they have promised to look royal in African attires when they go to see the movie on the premiere date. Some even took it too far by suggesting that African meals be served at the cinemas as well. Did the ‘Black Panther’ premiere just make every other red carpet irrelevant? Well, you tell us!
